Thanks all, emailed CGS with photo etc - got no response so I phoned them and explained the rarity, got very little response apart from "we will send you an introduction pack and you can then make an appointment to come and see us". My opinion - poor, can anyone recommend any one else ?

Rooneydog, my opinion on CGS attitude is worse than poor, unfortunately this is a family forum so I cant really voice my true opinion, personally I would try SPINK in London, perhaps they might show a bit more interest in the Rarity, and possibly include it in a future Newsletter. What have you got to loose.?

Try CGS again with a link to the Nicholson collection.Likewise the same to Spink. Don't forget we are talking about the pinnacle knowledge on the subject.

Thanks Peter1234, I did attach the link to the Nicholson collection in my email to CGS on Sunday, also in my email last night to Spink.

Great discovery! Did you ever hear back from CGS or Spink?

As it has been 18 months I thought I would give Spink another chance, here's the reply. I think the Spink coin department needs to apologise to you! This is of course a very rare coin and I can only assume that our specialist who looked at it originally took a cursory glance and assumed it was the normal legend.
I tend to agree that it would have been for circulation. We will put in the next edition of Coins of England and many thanks for the use of your image.Perseverance
