As stated in the other thread, I believe the mint mark area to be suspect. It looks like an altered 1914-S. Welcome to CCF.

Let me catch my breath!
Does anyone believe the luck that adavis13 had?
Well, adavis13, you see, uh.... this is a particularly scare half dollar. In its apparently cleaned state it should still fetch... oh, I'm going to say $50. If not cleaned, perhaps upwards of $100+. I am being conservative in my estimates.
Yes, it all worked out quite well.

I defer to LogPotato - he is the expert on halves. My specialty is the dimes.

Let me say, I am no expert as Matthew accused me of being. But I do think there is some stuff going on in that area. Even if is altered, it's still pretty dang cool. And I would take them all day for free! I hope it isn't altered, and you get a nice payday.

adavis, what are you not finding help with? Some of the folks here might not answer immediately, but they do answer.

I agree with the others who have spoken up. The mint mark location appears to have tooling and may very well be altered to be a high value coin.

I have to agree with LogPotato. It does appear that the mint mark has been removed. The 1913, 1914 and 1915 are considered the "Key" dates in the series there are several other "Semi-Key" dates that carry alot more numismatic value then the actual "Key" date coins. Of the three key dates mentioned above, the 1914 P is the highest priced of the three but pales in comparison when you get to VF and above to some of the "Semi-Key" dates. Still a great find and if it is genuine Philadelphia mint coin then it is worth around $50-$60 dollars as stated above. Good Catch. Edited to show a similar coin. Notice under the Eagles tail above the "D" in dollar. That is where the MM is located if not issued from Philadelphia.

The mintmark has been crudely removed to make it appear to be the semi-key 1914(P), a much more valuable coin that was struck without a mintmark. As it is with that damage, it would be worth silver spot value which is currently ~$12.

Quote: seems this is the only coin I can get any real help with so far on this site :/ so I'm off to find another forum for the rest. We have members that visit this site from all around the world so when its day time in one area the others will be sleeping. The ones that may be familiar with the ones you are not getting help with so far may either be sleeping or at work and haven't logged on. We have a large number of US and Canadian collectors here and you can probably get an answer on one of those series any time of the day but others you may have to wait a couple days before someone comes along that recognizes the coin to respond to your question. Most members will not respond to a question if they do not know the answer as to not give false information
