On another post, a member said he also received this coins without the plastic covers. He called and asked the Mint to send him some plastic cover.

If you buy from the Mint, the outer cover is not included. You get the large cardboard folder with the coin encapsulated and in a small sealed pouch.
If you buy from a dealer, you get an additional vinyl sleeve that goes over the large cardboard folder. I don't believe that you can call the Mint and have them send you the vinyl sleeve.

Its not really a vinyl sleeve or plastic. It is cellophane, the same stuff cds are wrapped in.
And if you buy from the Mint Boutique stores, they come wrapped in this cellophane sleeve. I always buy from the Mint store because the post office mangled one of my previous orders since they ship in a bubble envelope and not a box.

Agree with CC-Ottawa I bought each one of these coins (20 for 20) from the RCM, and the card was always open. Thought, may be it is only my order, or it depends on the coins quantity. So those of issues, that wanted to give as a gift - bought separately from the dealer. The seller even asked me: "Why didn't you directly order from the mint?" Just take unprotected red (Reindeer) or blue (Polar Bear) card with clear and dry hands - after this you will see on the light the finger prints....

thanks for correcting me. The small pouch is vinyl. The outer sleeve is not.
The vinyl pouch is prone to splitting which is likely what the mint can help replace. I suspect they get damaged in shipping or possible crack when frozen.
One of my arrived on a cold day with a split pouch and the encapsulated coin loose in the packaging but I didn't bother getting a replacement.

All my previous $20 for $20 coins from Mint came with the outer sleeve. But the Magical Reindeer does not. Weird. But I don't care because that 3 are for my own collection.
The other 10 from dealer comes with outer sleeve. Nice. These are will be X-mas gift for family and friends.

CAD 22.95 at Colonial Acres...same shipping charge as at Mint.
People got more familiar with this series and the last issues weren't sold-out quick like first three. The non-collectors do not hurry to "Exchange 20 dollars from your pocket with 20 dollars silver coin".
