I see a Marcian monogram (third down on the far right row). That one is a bit scarce. Good luck cleaning them!

Some of those look promising. Hey, I want that Marcian!! lol
Just kidding but that could be a good find in that lot for you.

Good eye! I was thinking that was a Byzantine M coin. Should be an interesting one - falling at 2nd rarest I've got!
I reckon the key to my success here was the title: 'roman coins'. The description was equally imaginative - but I wont complain. I hope I get a Londinium out of it.

Quote: no pictures of the back, no description of the coins. An adventure I like your strategy, these look like a good mix and I bet will be a lot of fun researching Looking at them closer I think you did well for a quid each, a few of these look 'interesting', certainly better than the usual 'uncleans'.

That's a nice looking lot of uncleaned coins. I noticed the Marcian mongram that alone is worth more than what you paid for the lot. Wish I could find one of his in a uncleaned lot. Congrats.

Ive been very lucky - Eudoxia and Marcian. 2 over 100 in Steve's list in £40 worth of romans. thats not counting the other great coins I've found.
Anyone recognise the top middle?
You know, the most exciting bit will be seeing the other sides of those coins. Hopefully the big one is something nice and the Marcian has a bust.

I thought it was a Byzantine Pentanummium. I could be wrong though.

If it looks like this, it could be Justin II. This coin also has a monogram. I wonder if yours has one?

I agree with Gil-galad that it's Byzantine.

Carefully cleaned these are worth more than you paid. Scrubbed and butchered they are worth less. I surprised no one called out the big Hadrian sestertius(too obvious?). It may be one of the least valuable especially if the Marcian shows the mintmark and a couple others are nice on both sides. You never know if a seller positioned them best side up or just dumped them out.

I got the lot for the Sestertius - Its a hadrian, you say? Great! Lets hope its one of these: Im much better with cleaning now - I dont want a repeat of a couple of my previous coins. Ill be doing these slowly anyway - school work to do.
