I was under the impression that the TPGs would not grade cleaned coins, or is that a unique policy with only some.
First sight impression was Good without a numerical rating until I could check reference material, would be better if it was mine. I have 2 in about the same condition sans the D mint mark, darn it. Nice hard to find coin.

I think the coin was slightly undergraded unless the area of the rim and lettering in the shadows are much worse than they appear.

ANACS will grade cleaned, altered, damaged coins and list the problems on the slab. ANACS used to give net grades (a grade lowered to account for severity of problems) but I think they only do details grades now. NGC will also do it, but they have to be submited through their sister company NCS (Numismatic Conservation Services) and they will list the problem with a details grade on the slab. PCGS will just bodybag it and take your money . Indianhead, that is one of the nicest AG3s I have seen in a slab. Unless the reverse shadow is hiding alot of worn rim, I would say it is a bit undergraded. I could see a net grade of AG3 due to cleaning but the details are G4.

Thanks guys, the reverse rim isn't worn in the shadows as much as one may think. I thought myself that this coin was undergraded. I'm still learning to take acceptable photos of coins but still havent mastered it yet. I think I got a bargain on this dime for $395

Congratulations on such a fine purchase, I agree...it is a bargain at that price and will go up in the future in any condition. Can I ask...did you get it at auction, from an individual seller, or maybe a dealer?

I bought the dime from a dealer here in the town I live in. I saw it in his case and just knew I had to have it so I went to the bank and went right back and gladly bought the coin. The dealer is Foremans Rare Coins in Waynesboro, PA. He doesn't have a web site unfortunately. He does have some decent prices.

That is quite a bit of coin for the money. I am hoping to get one of these this year... (fingers crossed), hopefully I can do as well as you!
