That is one of Merriam's most rarest and most sought after. I dont have my Fuld book with me, however, if you only paid $20 bucks for it, you got a heck of a deal. It is worth hundreds, regardless of its present grade.

I've seen the obverse many times but not with that reverse. Cheetah will be able to tell you more than I but thanks for posting it.

MA115D-2a (reverse 1284) R-9 (2-4 known to survive/exist)

As per Kanzinger's 2002 price guide:

Fine/Very Fine: $1250.00
EF/XF: $1500.00
UNC: $2000.00

With the corrosion and verdigris, your specimen is about a Fine 'Details'

I would venture to guess somewhere around $600.00 - $800.00

Congrats.

Thanks again Cheetah...as you can tell, I posted this on a number of forums to get all the information I can. This wasn't listed in my Rulau book.

I just received the Merriam back from NGC and wanted to share the final verdict.

Great pick-up! I concur with Cheetah on the estimated value. That said, it's a very desirable token, and two motivated bidders could easily drive that value skywards to the $1,000 range, despite its humble grade.

Thanks Dave! I was a little up in the air about selling it, but it allowed me to fulfill some important type pieces for my 7070 and allow me to buy my first nice $1 1896 Educational currency.

That's great. Many from one... hey that sounds like E Pluribus Unum only in reverse
