Quote: SPP-Ottawa 5 cents really lol I see iam not liked here, joker... I was not joking. You asked a fair question, of value, and I gave you a fair (and correct) answer. Canadian 5-cent coins, since 2001 are plated with three layers of nickel and copper. Elements of extra metal from the plating almost always occur on those coins, in various places, particularly the smaller elements like the legend. The coins now produced in Winnipeg are done so with focus on quantity, not quality, so the stuff you are showing in your photos are within mint tolerances. Your coin is not an error, mule or any of the other words you used. Lastly, your coin is circulated, which for a collector of even the most minor element varieties, is unappealing. Good luck at the coin shop, I'll bet the answer is the same there...

Kijiji2012, everyone is liked and welcome on this forum. What isn't liked is unethical practises which you demonstrate well. You ask questions and refuse to listen to what people have to say with the exception of the coin shop you visit. Please list the name of the coin shop you visit as I would like to sell some coins to them. Seriously, you are welcome here as there is incredible information available to you. Just dont try to pull a fast one on people. Have a good evening.

ssp if my coin is not an error or anything maybe you should take it up with the coinsandcananda.com web site :) then you can set them rite as they list the coin as an error and I would like to know how iam pulling a fast one, so far no one has seen pic of a 2009 nickel like this only the tail is recorded,(and not many) and there are many people who collect error or messed up coins as iam finding on ebay, just becuase its not your cup of tea, you tell me there no value just the tale(bug tale) alone is valued at 8 dollars so iam told now mine is marked I like ,but far from 5 cent in value, this is my last reply! thank you

Quote: you tell me there no value just the tale(bug tale) alone is valued at 8 dollars so iam told Where did you get this $8 value? You seem to think that coinsandcanada is the be all and end all of coin values, yet it doesn't have a value listed for this variety. Even in MS-60 this lists at $0.05, yours is definately not in MS condition. SPP is right, you asked for a value and when you didn't like what you were told you got upset. If you don't want to hear the answer, then don't ask the question. The information available to you on this forum, is far greater than your average coin shop, as you have many people on here that are VERY knowledgable and specialize on certain types of coins. You should use this to your advantage and learn from them......not shun them for opinions that you asked for.

I stay away from coinsandcanada website, as much as I admire their dedication to the smallest variety, as Hans Zoell used to do, there are quite a few omissions and errors with the nomenclature of error coins and pricing structure of varieties. The people dedicated to that site are a close-knit group of variety collectors, many of them dealers, who like to sell coins at the prices listed, but buy them at face value.
The problem with pricing is the perceived demand, or lack thereof. Take the 1962 doubled date 5-cent or 1979 doubled date 1-cent, as use those as a baseline - they have value in mint state condition but are essentially face value in circulated condition. There simply is not enough demand for the newer varieties.
I don't want to discourage you from hunting, finding and even discovering varieties - that is the fun part of numismatics. But, finding a little die chip dot here, or doubled obverse legend there or a die chip on the tail of the beaver does not automatically mean it has excess value. The value of the item is only what a collector is willing to pay for it, and for a 2009 5-cent with plating anomalies, in circulated condition, is worth face value. If a variety collector does have interest, chances are they will now buy 2009 mint BU rolls and hunt for the die chip themselves, and acquire a mint state example at a much cheaper cost than $8.

you say plating anomalies, I asked about that , I was told they are to thick to be plating?any though? and then the preson refered to the 2001 quarter with ghosting? saying that is from plating, the A in canada has a very big plating\extra metal you can see with the naked eye, and the leaf extra metal is higher then the leaf?, .......and I do take it all in, but when some one starts call me names and refering to items on ebay (which they where wrong about darryl darrly, and as far as list the word scrap in it if you buy it becuase it says scrap and dont read anything else well ,not sure who falt that would be :) work smart not hard!!

As I said before, the Winnipeg mint is focused on quantity and cost-effectiveness of production, and not quality. Die chips are common in all denominations. I think if you acquired mint state BU rolls of 2009 5-cents, searched them and found a 'bug tail' in MS-63+ grade, then, you have something which could be argued as having a premium value. Happy hunting!

@Kijiji2012...this is my last post on this matter. There has been no name calling. Sometimes the truth hurts! Say what you will but the fact remains that you have this nickel listed on ebay with the word MULE in the heading! This is misleading and wrong! Say no more my friend. Lets please move on to something a little more worth while then your 5 cent nickel please.
