Proof like weren't done in 1996. MS, SP, PR are the only three types in 96 or so I thought.?

Neither the 1996 average proof (struck in base metals)

There is NO PL in 1996, only proof, specimen and business strike.

That coin is a proof, I have no doubt about it. I have more than 10 of those here at home to show you and at least 10 more specimen to compare.

There would be the business strike and the uncirculated strike, specimen and proof.

So, you have proof struck coins, dated after 1980, without _any_ frosting on the devices?

I repeat: only proof, specimen and business strike

The blue folder states "uncirculated" but the coin is a specimen.

I collect twoonies. All my other coins serve the single function of trade bait - I don't look at them, don't study them and have only a marginal interest on them

If the wide ring is a proof and a narrow ring is a specimen, doesn't it seem unlikely that my three would be of the wide ring variety?

The last photo I have included is from the $2 regular banknote (not BRX) and $ RCM set, which the Charlton catalog indicates is specimen.

The first two are in the smae folder as hjnong has pictured.

Are you at the bottom of a bottle of wine, again? You are contradicting yourself. Start at the top of the thread, and re-read your posts. Ignore all the other images, and look at the original poster's two images. Neither of those two coins are "proof" according to what the RCM defines as a proof strike - proof strikes have frosted devices, and do not have brilliant effigies (as shown).

Specimen we're available only in the blue folder. The other packages had proofs or business strikes, depending on the package.

I concede there being no "uncirculated" strikes. I was looking at the two dollar derivative section and read that the 1996 RCM/CP issue with the stamp and note contained a "Brilliant Uncirculated" toonie and showed a MS under the finish column.

t_y> Then are you saying that within the specimen finishes, there are both a wide ring and narrow ring?

Hmmm... Seems Business Strike also can produce the "wide ring"? See the pics of the 2012 old-style BU from roll - Obverse side has ""wide ring". Interesting!

I checked my toonies on hand, all years of business strike from coin rolls or gift sets carry "narrow ring" (both side), except the 2011 park toonie and 2012 old style - the obverse side has "Wide Ring".

It would be nice if some toonie experts can explain how these two types of ring happen.

Thanks a lot!

Toonies have been counterfeited to death and then you have the German planchets, but I have no idea what year they came about.

It's the color and surface finish that delineates the German from the others.
