So that other collectors, hopefully kids like mine going through Dad's change, will get the same thrill as Trent.

My little treat to the collecting world.

I didn't realize this until seeing this post, but it looks like the US Mint has begun issuing business strike coins from San Francisco in 2012:

On June 21, 2012, the US Mint began sales of bags and rolls containing circulating quality 2012-S El Yunque Quarters. This product carried some significance as the first time that the "S" mint mark has been used on circulating quality coins in more than three decades.

It does appear you buy them in rolls or bags direct from the mint - i.e., the mint is not releasing them directly into circulation - so it is a pretty cool find!

Problem is, we have to start weighing all the S mint mark ATBs if silver or clad. IMHO

The clad s mints are business strikes only. The silver s mints are proof only.

You can also tell by looking at the edge to find silver. Now that my eyes have gone, it's my first line of defense if the readers aren't around...

Sorry, that is what happens when you don't proof read. I meant to say the circulating s mints are clad business strikes only. No silvers.

I never understood why someone would spend a proof. Now that I think about it, it may be fun to put em into circulation

Pure ignorance, desperation, or both.
