Well if the s VDB is real I think it would be from Die 4.

This is on the PCGS website:

Three-Lincoln-Cents:-1909-SVDB,-1914-D-&-1922

Mine appears to have the tilted central crossbar of the "B" that is expected:

The dot spacing between the letters looks good.

And here's an overlay of the two images:

Three-Lincoln-Cents:-1909-SVDB,-1914-D-&-1922

Looks like a perfect match to me.

I was talking about the obverse. Did the 1909 s VDB and the 1909 VDB use the same reverse die?

I have no idea. Speaking of the obverse, however, here's the same comparison of diagnostics with the mint mark:

AU details on the SVDB? Man, that would be AWESOME if true!

Well, don't hold me to that based on two internet pictures. I was on the fence with EF but the apparent height of the wheat grains moved me over. It's very close and if I was being conservative I would say EF details. Even with the old cleaning and little bits of corrosion and damage, it's a nice example. I suspect a coin like this would still get real close to market value if sold.

Hmmm....that S and the corrosion/color at the rim area raises the flag for me. Corosion/color makes me think heat was in this area. I hope I am wrong.

ANACS is having there dollars/cents special. Send all three in.

It looks like we have a winner on the mint mark on that 1909-S VDB ladies and gentlemen.

Three-Lincoln-Cents:-1909-SVDB,-1914-D-&-1922

I'm leaning towards genuine on that one until either I'm able to examine it in-hand or a TPG rules on it.

The other two are harder to judge by photos without other tests. I'd send all three in, too.

Agreed, with coins of that nature, better to send them in and get them slabbed anyway. Those are the three toughest to get in that series, and you're collection is not worth much in general (as far as 1909-1958 pennies) without them. Slabbing them - and finding out if they're genuine - will make the collection more valuable and more liquid.

After the extra pictures and all of my problems / questions being answered through the follow up comments, I change my initial opinion on the 09 S VDB. The gunk was gunk or just bad lighting and every coin is genuine.

Sorry if I caused an uproar but this just goes and shows the need for the best possible pictures when seeking opinions.

I should know, because I can't get good enough photos on some of mine to do the same.

Apology accepted! In the future, though, it would help if you explained your reasoning (and perhaps requested better pictures as others did) instead of just declaring your opinion that a coin is fake. That's a pretty devastating judgment to read after all.
