UPDATE on the Coin Show: My children & I woke up early and arrived at the coin show 10 minutes before the show began. The excitement built as we watched several vendors wheel in their cases of treasures. The doors open and we enter to see dealer-to-dealer bargaining already underway. Do we simply start at the first table & work our way around? Should we look at all the coins to get a feel for what's available in case we find a lost treasure? So many choices it's almost paralyzing. One table has coins from all non-U.S. countries and U.S. currency. He didn't have any $500 or $1000 bills. Too bad. I want to see one in person. But, my kids each pick up a bag of 25 international coins for a few dollars. The dealer was nice enough to trade me dollar-for-silver dollar so I could teach my kids about its history. Lots of American Silver Eagles, Buffalo nickels, Proof Sets, Morgans, 1/2 cent, large pennies, Presidential dollars, etc. After scanning the tables I returned to one that had a few really nice Braided Hair Large Cents at reasonable prices. After carefully examining each, I decided on one to add to my collection. It was difficult not to buy more but I wanted to be sure I only picked up nice quality coins. That is why I stopped at one. I figured I got lucky. And here is the one I picked up for myself:

Yours is definitely nicer. Compare to my 1850 which I think I paid $25.00 for...

AND the greatest thing about a coin show is you get to see exactly what your buying. No lost in mail, no postage, no handling, no wrong coins sent, etc.

And the good deals. And just being able to see a ton of stuff you probably never knew you wanted and will never be able to afford. Looking forward to my Vegas trip now...totally planned it around a coin show being held in our hotel. The girlfriend does not know yet.

"...totally planned it around a coin show being held in our hotel. The girlfriend does not know yet." I suspect you will regret your subversive choreography and that you will pay. Hoo baby, will you ever pay...
Being forthright and up-front with HoneyBunny is (almost) never a bad idea and is (almost) always a better idea and less costly than trying to play it cutesy.
However -- play it your own way and best of luck...

Actually she won't be too upset. She likes the hotel's slots and doesn't like coin shows so she won't want to go to it anyway. I have a whole day planned around going to some antique malls for her (that's her hobby) so I'm not forgetting what she likes. :)

Well, update on the coin show at the hotel. She just called me this morning and said "Did you know they're having a coin show starting the Friday we're in Vegas?" When I said yes, she said she would hit a poker room if I was going to the show. Guess the cat's out of the bag.

I think you missed out on a great way to make lots of points. You should have said WOW, REALLY. Gee thanks for the info. I really appreciate that.
