i know nothing about these coins but I'm going to take a blind leap here and say AU58 there's some surface issues happening that I believe held it back the population of MS dollars is so overwhelming in the marketplace that I just think they did not feel this one made the grade

I think it is a MS-64. The coin appears to have been struck from worn dies.

MS65 I could see a 64 but I doubt it, I think what look like tiny tics are not the scuffs are luster breaks from the frost on this gem coin. I see only 2 makrs one on the nose and one on the hair behind the ear, both go vertical. not too distracting so I think MS65.

Looks like a strong MS64 in the images. MS65 on some days. My guess is NGC put is in a MS65 holder.

Remind me, whenever I get too enamored of a coin, to run it by you guys - you'll bring me back to earth! ;-) Almost everyone agreed on a MS grade, with most people choosing 62-63-64. However, westcoin got it spot-on (and for the right reasons), as did fenton and BH1964. Both PCGS and NGC gave it... And I still love it immensely for its glowing, satin luster that I can see from across the room! Almost makes me want to collect the series.

Super Liz! If this coin didn't have the big line, and it would get that grade you really want, but.... not gonna happen, I haven't seen a lot of 66+ Peace dollars but I've seen enough of them, to say when you see one "you will know it" Luster drips like diamond glitter. This one is so close to it the luster breaks have to be almost non-existant to qualify for the 66+ or better a 66 can have a few of them, but makrs or ticks? NO WAY, the TPG's are hard on these beauties. You will pay for a CAC 66 or better, probably more than ask at a coinshow or auction today.

Thanks, westcoin. Although I collect primarily circulated coins, I have to admit I just love the look of this coin - dripping luster is a great way to describe it. I'll definitely keep my eye out for 66's to compare with it - and perhaps someday I'll invest in an upgrade. In the meantime, I really appreciate the education on grading Peace dollars.
