Celticknot,

Looks like you have the right idea already. Your Ft Knox is a pretty good safe and their lighting systems are as well. There's no one package I recommend, just whatever works for you. Some want their safe to look like the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, others want a soft glow for night access.

You could easily add a magnetic or PIR sensor to the interior or I sell a lock that can be integrated into your alarm with duress codes, video activation when keypad is touched or a shunt feature which kills power to the lock from your main alarm pad. Nearly every safe is designed exactly like the last 100,000 prior safes which, if one knew what to do, could break in based on knowing the "cookie cutter" design of the mechanism. We add mechanical "traps" or extra security features which if a burglar or even a locksmith attempted to open without knowing the upgrade would lock it up solid. This is not a DIY thing anyone should attempt... But if you do, send a photo. I love seeing other's ingenuity.

Joe2007,

New homes with wood flooring and supports can generally handle most safes around 2500#. But an expert safe installer or rigger can temporarily reinforce the floor over the transport path to support more weight (assuming there is a basement). On top of a load bearing wall or near an outside or supported corner are idea locations for heavier safes. My old high rise was only rated for 40# per sq. foot but the engineer gave approval for my 3000# safe to go next to the stairwell. Talk to your builder for the weight per sq. ft of your home.

B2B,

Liberty make a decent safe but the more important question is: " How much are your coins worth?". See my previous posts or website for guidance on choosing the correct safe. I'll try to post some photos of gun safes & high security safes that have been in fires. That may change your mind.

No hope,

You have done the best you can by bolting it down and reframing the closet. You are correct that most people won't get in within 10 minutes however people don't realize how quickly an alarm can be disabled. If they're they're for more than 10 minutes, than they have the whole day to break in.

Noah,

I would need to know the specific model but based on my google images search they are common, low quality, 20-40# import safes which can pop open if sent down a flight of stairs.

Yes, thanks. I decided against it primarily for the reason that I am unable to know the model, thus there are no guarantees that it is fire proof, which is the primary reason I wanted to get (a larger) one.
Thanks!

How do we feel about storing bullets and firearms in a safe along with valuable coins and PMs?

I believe I read something that said isn't a good idea. The oils you use to clean your guns may be detrimental to your coins & frn's.

I am looking for a Safe which can be fire proof as here in Dubai there is quite a few incidents related to fire. Can you recommend something. I came across the Valberg safes with two key locks and digital lock. A friend of mine had suggested the *** Link Removed by the Staff ***

Please confirm if this is ok for burglary as well as Fire resistance whether is there is impact on digital locking mechanism
