This is the first one I've ever owned. I've only ever met one other in the flesh so I don't have the experience to say with any certainty.

I have been doing german ; french and spanish translations for my friend and teacher (retired american coindealer ) who bought several raw coins and had them slabbed the lowest came back as MS 64 I just got word he says minimum grade would be MS62 because the eagle is perfect and the girl only got slide like in cabinet slide He figures you may get an MS 63 out of it

Well if he's a retired US coin dealer I should think he knows how to grade these things alot better than I do! Just out of interest, I don't usually bother about the price much but how much would one of these realistically be bought for? I know that we in the UK generally have to pay more for US coins than native US collectors do, basically because they're thin on the ground. Saints round these parts go for about £320-£330, I got this for £330.

No doubt about strong XF, possibly a low AU but cannot tell by the pic provided. Good buy!

Hi Aetheling, welcome to the light! nice purchase. Don't know how hard it is to get these "across the pond", but 330 pounds (just a shade under $600) should get you a MS 61-63, slabbed, at least based on recent heritage sales. Don

This one I got in Switzerland for 400 Euro but customs did not agree with me that it was taxfree so I had to pay like 32 Euro tax

I used to have a 1894 one. I do regret selling that coin, it wasn't as nice as yours because mine was only VF, but it grew on me.

Up to like 1970 those Double Eagles could be bought at every money exchange agent for like 30% over melt for uncirculated coins Now those Double Eagles are no longer available at exchange agents So I regret selling some around 1980 I guess it is the scarcity of uncirculated grade that makes me realise they are a lot more valuable then the goldprice Also I got intrested in history and learned to grade coins american style I regret the necessity that made me sell
