You probably want to put the Nickel Key dates above the silver dimes. I've found many, many more silver dimes than nickel key dates....

Let him gloat all he wants. You've converted someone and that's all that counts.

It's all in fun, Libertad. We're on hiatus as he is out this week. I got a practice round in today, though. I got three more nickels for the books I started and a 53D silver Roosevelt. With that I feel my luck has turned and I will be ready to take him on again when we're back at it.

After our break, we were back at it today. Sad to say he's up 5-0. I came up blank and he found two 43P silver nickels...IN THE SAME ROLL!

We're kicking around the idea of changing the denomination next time (still $10 dimes, $10 nickels).

Back at it today. While it was a close one, he STILL gained the win according to the rules outlined above. It came down to him getting a 1944P silver nickel and me getting a 1945P nickel. We gave it to him based on the fact that the mintage of 44 was slightly lower, but not by much! I also pulled two 1940s, a 1957 and a 1958. Even with the loss, I'll take it.

We searched the rolls at an outdoor table in the city. Right away, a guy stops and says, "Hey, are you guys coin collectors!? I do the same thing!"

Awesome, sounds like a lot of fun. How do you guys split it up, you each take home the coins you found or do you split them between you more evenly so you both get about the same in regards to keepers and such.
According to the rules you put before shouldn't his 1944 have won automatically because you guys were tied on the War Nickel step of your tier and in an event of a tie the oldest coin wins?
I think I'm going to give this a try, it sounds like a lot of fun. I might even make it a little more interesting and play it winner take all.

Thanks for the idea. I'm going to enjoy crh battling a lot I think. :)

Haha...as you can tell, Justin, we don't take the rules too seriously. Technically, you are right and he should have won automatically, but I was hoping for an impromptu loophole so I didn't go down 0-6. That didn't even save me.

Interesting approach about the keepers. We have historically just kept our own finds, but you bring up some compelling twists to consider.

I still think this is such a cool idea. I'll have to play it with my girlfriend sometime. She likes shiny things, too, so it might be fun for us.

I would be pleasantly pleased to find a Barber dime, Monks. However, today (and yesterday) we went with just $20 in nickels. The losing streak continues.

I pulled several older Jeffersons...a few from the 50's, few more from the 40's and a 39. Oh...I also found my first 2013 (not that I'm saving those). None were significant key dates, but I still felt good pulling all of those while he was coming up short. Until...on his last role, he pulled a dateless Buffalo. We were bummed that it was dateless, but excited nevertheless. Even with all the older ones I found, none were needed for my book. Tomorrow is another day.

If anyone wants to find good coins, come crh with me. I continue my losing steak with him pulling a 42d silver. Unbelievable!
