I'm probably going to pass on this coin.

On a mildly related note, I was visiting Ottawa this weekend and spoke to one of the tour guides at the mint. I asked her about difficulties cashing in a 20 for 20 coin, or for the upcoming 100 for 100 coin. She said that all banks should (in theory) accept them and that the reason they don't accept them may be because they're unfamiliar with the process. Banks need to collect a number of these NCLT coins and then send in the batch to the mint along with some forms. She informed me that a quick call to the mint from the bank manager would sort it all out. Sounds good in theory; in praxis, probably not so easy

There was a big news report (in Toronto) about people trying to cash in their $20 for $20 coins at the bank. The guy in the report had a hard time at first, but after all the media attention, got some bills. Any business or person can refuse any currency, whether it be paper/polymer money or coins. The bank (or store, or gas station, etc., or even a local drug dealer) does NOT legally have to accept these coins eventhough they are legal tender. It is 100% at their discretion. With that being said, even if you are a good standing customer at a bank, and try to cash in a $100 coin, I'd expect the teller to give you a very puzzled look. After speaking to the branch manager, you should be able to exchange the coin for a bill... But it may take a few minutes while they call the mint.

Usually when I walk into a bank, they recognize me, and expect an unusual transaction, such as exchanging $500 in bills for 25 cent coins or $2500 in $100 bills for all $5 bills. I think they'd know I wasn't just trying to pull a quick one on them by now.

Between the $100 for $100 coin and the "chicken head" eagle, I bet the $100 for $100 will do better in the secondary market one year from now.

For $100, I would rather take my chances with four silver maple leaf coins... I bet my purchase will do even better, one year from now...

The face value is the only thing that will be this coin's saving grace from post-production price drop...

Post production price drop? We pay $100. What sort of price drop are you expecting?

can someone please explain to me why this is so desirable with a 50,000 mintage ?!! Everyone who wants one of these will be able to purchase one from the mint. With people buying 3 or more, the secondary market will be flooded with these...and in time, the initial hype/excitement will die down. I'm sitting on the fence with this one.

$20 for $20 x 250,000 mintage = $5,000,000
$100 for $100 x 50,000 mintage = $5,000,000

50,000 mintage seems like a better deal.

I bought two,one for me one for one of my kids.
It's appealing IMO

1.First of the series look at every other first.
2. 50k mintage alot less then first 20 for 20 and look how much that sells for now.
3.Just like the 20 for 20 it's a 100 for 100 how can you lose.

Btw neither shipping code worked for me

@ fillurboots, it could be the shipping code has been used up. With free shipping + $100 face value coin = bye bye code...

For this coin in particular it does say "taxes due on shipping fees". I'm guessing that is why they discontinued the free shipping codes for $69 or above. I'm assuming MC members will still get their 'club' benefit of free shipping.
