Just think of the effort and expense that these "bad guys" go to to try and cheat the system...

If they would just put that same amount of effort into perfecting a real job...

haha why real job when once you get the "formula" right...all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the fresh prints :)

Id do it :P ...unfortunately I'm stuck working for money...which is just a piece of plastic. I wish my employer paid me in bullion hah

Be happy that our dollar is as stable as it is.

If you were payed in bullion,...you'd become "bi-polar" in an hour and be running back and forth "to sell or not"...

Can you use a colour photocopier with a polymer, rather than a paper substrate?

See, if we remained on the paper banknote, we would constantly be vigilant by checking the bills instead of mindlessly accepting whatever slippery thing that was passed to us. I always liked the paper bill more than the plastic. Nuff said!

Not just that, but a few times I was handed 3 $100s instead of the intended 2. I gave back the other one and the customer was surprised that I did lol...but it happens SO often that the polymers stick together and are really thin. I sometimes have to count 2 or 3 times at the end of the day just to make sure

*That* is impressive. I was expecting to wait at least a few more years before convincing polymer fakes hit the market.

And then -- boom. :-)

Australia has had polymer banknotes since 1988. We have long since gotten used to them.
Having said that, polymer notes are a lot less counterfeited than the old paper notes.

Thats good sel, hoping that will be the case here as well.

I wonder HOW the fakes look like...It would be very interesting to see how good of a job they did with the polymer ones. Some paper fakes were BAAAAADDD and I spotted them at work from a mile away.

What is kinda funny about the sudden counterfeiting is that it took such a short period of time, the $5 and $10 haven't even been released yet.

When handling the new polymer notes,.. it's amazing to see the many security devices in these new notes.

The clear through panels with the different structures and with the tiny see-through maple leaf etc... and all of the micro-printing etc.

I'd have thought that the fakes would be easy to spot too.

I think the bad guys have a big advantage right now, a lot of people are not used to using cash and are not familiar with the new bills.
I would guess that less then 1% of my spending every month is done using ca$h.
I've never even seen a hundred dollar bill up close yet, I got a new fifty from the bank machine once and twenty's only twice.
I live and work in northern bc and most bank machines are still only giving out the old bills.
