Hard to tell what the true value is. I don't think ICCS (Canadian Standards) gives out MS-65 RB designations.

Maybe not, but there are graded ICCS coins at this grade according to charlton. I bought this mainly to resell or trade for coins I need

And a PCGS Red Brown grade is probably equivalent to an ICCS Red grade

I own one of the two PCGS examples graded 66RB. I bought it about 5 years ago for about $2,300 USD. Prices may have gone up a little since then, but not much.

Yeah I saw the pop report, still only 2 PCGS (and NGC) graded MS66 RB, and still only 4 graded MS65RB. I could not find any auction listings or completed listings for those grades. I guess I'll try and get a better idea at the toronto coin expo and canadian coin and currency

1896 is a fairly common NF cent date. A lot will depend upon the eye appeal of your coin in hand and whether a dealer has a ready end buyer for it. Tough to tell eye appeal from photos. Depending on the eye appeal and how PCGS did on grading that particular coin (from the holder, I would say it was graded a few years ago), I think a reputable dealer could offer you anything between $400 and $800 for it. Good luck.
For comparison, my 1896 can be seen in the PCGS registry sets (Uncommon Cents).

WOW your 66 is flawless and the color is incredible!
I think I got a good deal on this one, hoping to see it in real life soon. Id be looking for at least $800 for investment in other coins.
Thanks for your help.

Again, good luck. You are not dealing with an EF coin, where one EF is pretty much like another. At 65 and 66, eye appeal is everything and can cause wide swings in price between coins of the same numerical grade.

why is it then the trends are at $3900-$4000 in charlton? Where did they manage to get such numbers?

Charlton lists the price at $4K for a 65 red. This is a full retail price (the price a dealer might charge you) for a red coin graded to ICCS standards and, in my opinion, is wildly optimistic considering that there are 1896 cents in 66 out there.
You are trying to sell a red-brown coin. Two things come to mind:
1. A dealer will generally offer you much less than full retail for your coin, particularly if he does not have an end buyer in mind to whom he can quickly flip the coin. Think 50-60% of full retail.
2. Full retail on your coin likely isn't anything close to $4K. Notice that the Charlton price on a 63 red 1896 cent is $350. Trends is higher at $800. In other words the fall-off from the very tip top coins (full 65 red or higher) is precipitous. In my opinion, the steep drop results from the fact that only perhaps three or four people collect NF coinage at these grade levels. The top two or three coins get top prices, those below them diminish in value very quickly.
Personally I think people get discouraged from collecting high grade NF coinage, because for some dates (1880 Oval O cent, 1888 cent, etc.) so few examples exist that completing a high grade set becomes nearly impossible. The lack of supply in the key dates lowers collector enthusiasm, demand, and prices in the mint state grades for all dates, except for those close to the finest known.
I hope you do better, but I will stay with $400 to $800 bid value for your coin, depending upon eye appeal in hand.

such great info, thanks bosox! I was expecting only 50%-60% of trends MAX anyways, getting 4000 was not realistic in my opinion.
I hope the coin looks great in hand as well, looking forward to make some profit and re-invest in some other coins I was more interested in.
Would you recommend sending this to ICCS for re-grade? I'm thinking no, because I'm afraid they might grade is MS64 or MS65 (not red)

Take it one step at a time. See what you get offered in the PCGS holder. You can always reject the offer and try to cross it at ICCS later.

Bring it to Coin Expo, if you want a second opinion on eye-appeal. Hugh Powell (Newcan Coins) always has a respected opinion, Sandy Campbell (Proof Positive Coins) has a darned good eye, and I can give you an opinion from a collectors perspective.

I was going to do just that SPP, thanks! :)
I visited CCC (canadian coin and currency) today and looked at the trends list from the newspaper, the trends showed MS64 RED at $2000...again I know eye ppeal at these grades is EVERYTHING, but this gives me some hope in getting at least around $800 for mine.
Looking forward to meeting with you at the coin expo Roger
