Marbury518

I've had many conversations with dealers and buyers who think one day NFLD coins will boom, it's a British colony that no longer exists but what not a lot of people realize is how low the mintage were due to the small amount of land it was used for.

lets look at an example...

1870 L.C.W Canadian 50 cent - mintage is 450,000
1900 NFLD 20 cent (your coin) - mintage is 125,000

1870 valued at $16,000 in MS-63
1900 (your coin) valued at $4,700 in MS-63

Conclusion: the 1900 20 cent coin had a mintage of 3.6 times LESS than the 1870 50 cent coin yet the 1870 50 cent coin is worth 3.4 times MORE

obviously they're factors that can fluctuate the values i,e melting, hoarding and government collection, but as a collector market, not as many people collect NFLD coins, but many people are seeing more and more collecting them.

Thank you SP Ottawa...lol. Jakedacc..yes I understand that fewer collect the NFLD stuff...though the NFLD 1903 silver that sold
today in the UK ungraded went for good prices that meant the slab result was too risky for me. I think generally that the prices for Canadian and NFLD silver are increasing here in the UK if the auction house is well known......just more competition I guess. I would be interested in how members this I might do at ICCS with the 1900 20c....this is going to be key in terms of a good buy or a dumb one...financially that is....I like the look of it, esp the obverse.

The stuff in DNW auction house was OK , the 1903 Newfy ten cents was nice and I dropped out at 1650 pounds. I viewed all the stuff when I was at the London coin fair earlier this month. I sold the only known ICCS MS64 for $ 7500 Canadian earlier this year. The one in the auction had a chance at 63 I do believe. The three Newfy five cents 1903 were obviously all held together and were a neat little lot. Marbury your lot is OK as well the twenty cents is for sure the highlight of that lot.

I was left feeling a bit deflated not being able to buy the 1903 offerings....I bid £750 on the book beforehand on the 3 5c's but when it got to £780 it could have gone further so I bailed. Finding decent raw stuff in the UK up for auction isn't easy but I do spend a lot of time looking. I sold some nice coins to add to my fund for this auction and didn't spend 50% of it. I picked up a large group of Straits Settlement coins today too....I though the sheer number of silver coins was worth £120 of anyone's money.

Probably not allowed to discuss that here, PM me but I wouldn't imagine they have much in the way of value.

Had it in hand when I viewed the stuff in London at the DIX Noonan Webb auction preview, I am sure it will be an ICCS 55, there is some very minor cabinet friction or rub. Just too bad it is Newfoundland. Will this stuff ever reach its true potential? @Marbury nice lot!

Nice coin, not quite like Belzberg's MS-63, but a solid AU-50 to AU-55.

Ouch, ICCS gave EX40.....which I really disagree with and I don't usually disagree. Utterly gutted about the result.
