Well that is just 'SILLY' ! I have one similar condition and if I wanted to sell it I would not ask half that ! It is possible too that the owner has no desire what so ever to sell it and simply puts it up for show. Or he got fleeced and is trying to escape his mistake. I have listed some Romans on ebay with no real desire to sell them. I figure if someone did pay me 'Stupid money' I could always use the money to go buy 2 more !

That's too bad, if it was real it would have been a nice coin to have.

It isn't too good to be true a better condition examples of real coins exist and are offered. The style however is too bad to be true. Here are a couple from some fake reports that I have seen in recent years.... Martin

It is interesting that the fakes all fail to capture the 'essence' of Nero's portrait. In fact they quite resemble Domitian to a great extent. Nero usually has a sneer and looks like he is trying to intimidate someone. These all have a 'dopey' happy Mr Niceguy sort of look. They do not capture him artistically.

I think if we saw some of the true depths of FR's collection we would hate him way more than a little. Plus then he would come along and tell us he got it 30 years ago for a quarter what we would be able to find it now. If I could change my letters green with envy I probably would!

Believe it or not some of the Julio Claudians were very expensive and hard to find way back in the stone age. Asses of Claudius go for about the same and often less than they did in the 80's. Nice Folli are about the same too. Since the fall of the 'east bloc' the coins of the Balkan cities (Viminacium Stobi etc) have dropped through the floor. We used to pay around $70-100 for the Roman Colonial issues in VF, Now they are $25. One thing for sure though the Constantines which I tired of and bought back in the 'old' stone age when the President was named Carter ..... well we used to buy them in VF/EF for a couple of bucks apiece ! I thought I made a killing when I sold them off for $5 apiece about 5 years later. Live and learn
