It's a very nice thing your doing for that woman. It's good to see there are some decent people still out there.

Great story and awesome collection! Hope you find something unique in there dude. You should get a nice chunk of that for helping her organize it and sell it. Good luck and happy hunting!

UPDATE: we sold the collection earlier this week when it seemed that silver had leveled off just above $23 (although it looks like it may go a little higher yet.. grrr...), but I will still continue with updates. Ann let me keep several pieces that I liked along with the old Buffalo nickel Album and still insisted on paying a hefty sum for helping her. I still think she gave me too much but she gets upset when I try to tell her she is paying me too much when I help her around the house! THE DIME REPORT Here's an overview of the dime collection: WINGED LIBERTY Range: 1918-1945 Total Coins: 68 Unique Coins: 27 Rarest Date: 1934-D Best Grade: AU-50 ROOSEVELT Range: 1946-1964 Total Coins: 310 Unique Coins: 42 Rarest Date: 1949-S Best Grade: MS-60+ (several of the 64-Ds and a few earlier dates would easily grade at least MS-60) I found two 1964-Ds that appeared to be DDRs, but only "STATES OF AMERICA" showed doubling, not "ONE DIME". The LCS said this was probably Machine Doubling (am I remembering the correct term?) but he did point out that one of them had an overpunched mint mark. He said they had no significant premium so I kept them along with all of the beautiful 1964-Ds and others that appeared to be BU since the LCS was offering no premium on those.

Oh, and Ann decided to keep the half eagle which made me happy. I bought her a hard case for it. That is why I wanted her to come to the shop with me so she'd have a chance to see everything before we sold it and have an opportunity to keep something back.

Nice to know there are honorable people like you out there!
I was once in a similar situation, though no where near as many coins.
After I identified and inventoried everything for her, my only request to the widow was that I swap some of the common date Morgans she had for common date extras I had. It helped me fill some holes, without costing her anything.

That's nice that she let you help fill out your Morgan Album, jwguts. I was happy Ann let me keep her father's Buffalo Album in order to complete it. I have since filled 9 holes and have 24 of 64 left to go. I'll post a few more pics today since I don't have anymore reports ready... This is 99% of the silver, I had just started rolling the dollars and half dollars to keep them in date order (please ignore all my unorganized items in teh background): Here is the fabled "White Envelope" up close. It has been seen in other pictures, but here is a good look at everything that was in it. The Half Eagle really looks out of place! I'll be posting a few more coin count reports in the coming days.

The coins are all so nice!
I know you might not recommend this, but she should have the gold coin graded. This way you always know it's real and she won't loose it.
