I messaged the seller and asked why the pictures showed coins that were at best MS62. Here's the reply: Quote:We do not take '' spamming '' lightly. Your question is not a buying question, but it is viewed as a harassment and site interference. Strongly suggest that you become familiar with ebay's messaging policies because your message has violated at least two. - stevesgiftshoppe Wow.

Lol so that reply just confirms hes an unsavory character that knows exactly what hes doing. This guy is a complete joke check out his other listings. He has a TON of SGS graded coins and its basically the only service he uses. He probably actually sends coins into them with how many he has. Theres even a whole page of SGS graded Morgans and Peace dollars that he wants thousands of dollars for.

I thought he was SGS. The initials match, they seem equally businesslike...

I sent him a message asking if he submits them or if they are purchased already graded, and if his company guarantees the coin's grade when they sell it. I also asked him about that nasty spotting on that 1943-S. Time shall tell if he replies, and if so, in what manner.

I wonder if it was the same set or if they just recycle fake cert numbers (if they are even the same ones from the current auction) I am still amazed that ebay changed their rules several months ago allowing only PCGS and NGC (well I guess lobbyist money talks just like in Washington) regarding listing grades in action titles but hey allow these peddlers to continue. I guess it's all about the bottom dollar profit and the slush fund lobbyist bonuses for ebay in the past 8 years. I remember 13 years ago when ebay was honest and 5 years ago when Craigslist was honest.

There isn't a validation link on the SGS web site so I think that the actual number is irrelevant. I'd be shocked if you sent them a number and they actually responded with information about that particular coin.
BTW, the seller is a real whacko. If you go to his web site, there's a link to his other site as a business development consultant. It's quite entertaining. The entire site screams "hire me and I will kill your business".

SGS = Suckers Grading System
It saddens me to think that newbies and seniors are most likely the ones to "bite" on grading scams like this.
Also, as a fan of SEGS, I find the SGS label offensive ... a sly rip-off title, IMHO.

The funny part is under one of his reviews. There is a tag warning people to stay away from MS70 grades from SGS. I bet he will get tired of all the messages from here. I sent him a question about one of his SGS slabbed Morgans. I thought all the lead products on his sight were a little odd also. LOL

SGS is my favourite. The website is ridiculously dodgy, too. Check this out! Quote:An Independent Study has recently found that SGS currently accounts for 7% of all Graded Coins sold on the internet auction site ebay. Wow, tell me more! But wait, there's no source, so these are just words. I also doubt that anyone without a significant share in SGS would even bother to count how many crap slabs they've released on ebay, since they suffer from a reputation that I'd put (in my expert yet subjective opinion) at somewhere below 70. Quote: Only coins reaching grades of 60 to 70 will be graded. All others will be simply returned or certified. This is also vexing. I'm not sure if other companies do this, but isn't MS grading the hardest to do? So isn't allowing lower grades essentially doing less work for the same money? I think I know the real reason - if SGS allo .s in lower grades, this opens their insular little market up to actual rare coins (i.e. ones that are valuable enough in low grades to be worth authenticating), and it only takes one enormous ebay scandal to really mess them up. Plus, I'm pretty sure they'd authenticate a chocolate coin on the days where Steve doesn't even bother to wear his reading glasses. And finally... Quote: Our experts have over 100 combined years dealing with rare and valuable coins. America's new Grading Service. This is either a flat lie, or SGS employs over 50 different experts.

I sent this guy a email asking about SGS gradeing. He said they are all about the same. It is up to the buyer to judge for their self on the gradeing.

Good lord, anyone that lumps SGS in as about the same as the real TPGs is without a doubt a scammer.
