I usually roll hunt at my computer desk with headphones listening to the Grateful Dead with a nice cold IPA. It's usually a pretty mellow time but I have been known to scream out "score!" from time to time.

A wise old man once told me, "Why stand when you can sit? Why sit when you can lay?". Lol, I lay in prone position on my carpeted floor with Dr. Oz in the background. I have bad ADHD, heh, so the more stimuli the better, I guess. Also, for some reason roll hunting / double checking my sorted coins is a great alternative to warm milk or a nightcap.

I don't really roll-hunt, but when I get half-dollars in rolls from the bank, I always check them. It's less the silver-clads that I worry about, as things that aren't half-dollars at all, such as a 1980s Mexican ten-peso. Last week I got four rolls, & I sat down on the pavement outside the bank, tore them all open, & counted them out into wrappers I had with me. I wound up with five rolls, because I had a few in my pocket already, & I got 19 loose as well.

I work nights and am a natural night owl anyway so I usually hunt during the late afternoons or evenings, but sometimes if I get a late start I will be hunting after midnight.

I usually pick up my boxes during lunch. I can't help but open them right then to see if my next monster box is waiting on me. I usually open 11 rolls in each box for a quick edge search. As soon as I get off work, I rush home, play with the kids for a bit, then hustle upstairs to my former man cave (family area now). I put a little table to the right of my rocker/recliner and stack my boxes on it. I grab a canvas bag and the remote control. I turn on the TV to listen to the daily college football shows on my DVR. Then I'm ready to begin.

I am always on the couch, with a discard bag on my lap to make things faster, and a coffee table in front of me to stack copper or keepers. The TV is on and usually either Family guy, Its always sunny in Philadelphia, or Top Gear is playing.
The CRH'ing goes quicker if its not a new or particularly exciting episode.
Occasionally I open half dollar rolls in my car a lunch.

I have an extra bedroom downstairs in the back corner of the house. I have coffee table and lights. No stimuli. I try to do it before work or the family wakes up. Somewhere around 4-5 until 6 or 6:30. Occasionally I stay up past midnight.

I forgot to mention that I have one of those forehead mounted flashlights that miners use.
Apparently I am pretty funny looking when I search through coins wearing this, because I get a lot of laughs.

I use one of those head-mounted lights when I metal detect at night. I also get funny looks, but it's a different environment from CRHing.

Im usually on the couch. I have a coffee table that has various amounts of plastic containers on it, depending on what I'm searching. They are all labeled. I have a end table to the side with my CRH tools. A large 10x magnifier. A 60x lighted loupe for closer examination. A scale and a coin counter. I play the radio to suit my mood and keep the door shut to avoid distractions. Lately I've had mynew puppy in there with me. He just sits there and watches. If I drop a coin though, he snags it up and brings it to me. Pretty sweet, especially when the coin rolls 10+ft away. Its definetlt better than my cat, who would play with them and bat them under the bed or such. J swear be has a stash of my coins somewhere. Hopefully though, I don't drop a valueable one as I'm not sure how dog drool would after the value.

I've never bought boxes of coin from the bank. I hunt rolls at my work. I take about 15 minutes and go through the dimes and quarters looking for silver. So far, it has been very lucrative.

Today, I found a 1887 Seated Liberty dime! Pics are in the dime thread. Old coins like this one an extremely rare event but it does happen.

More that likely I am blasting classic rock music in the background.

I'll have to join the ranks of people using headlamps while CRHing. I wear one of those while running with friends at night. Nothing looks funnier than a dozen guys sprinting past with flashlights bobbing up and down on their heads.

My strategy is simple:
No music or TV, I'd never get anything done that way.
sit at a desk in my room, usually in the late morning early afternoon once I get home from cross country practice.
