One piece of trivia I would add - the image preview has the wrong exposure if you're using a manual lens in manual exposure mode (M on the dial). The preview actually looks a couple stops darker than what the actual exposure will turn out to be.

That's a good point; I need to adjust (usually ISO) at least two steps to get something bright enough to focus.

Sorry I haven't been back; my job entails 12-1/2 hour shifts, and the commute means I get 4 hours' sleep on days when I work consecutive shifts with zero free time. I have today to play with, and some of tomorrow, and then you won't see me again until Sunday afternoon.

I just started a new job as well, and the learning curve is stressing me out, but it's better than being unemployed...

SD, if you can make a list of the shots you want to see based on the recent discussions I can try to get them for you before your Sunday window, assuming you'll want to work on this stuff in your limited spare time. Or maybe get the list together Sunday. Or I can just take a sequence of screen shots and fill in later, just let me know how you want to proceed...Ray

I think the original list you proposed is about right. However, if Bobby is going to lend me his backup camera (a T2i), I'll be able to do everything here. With that in mind, if you want to send over screenshots, all the better; it'll reduce the workload.

I'm probably going to host the images out on the Net someplace because I'd really like to use a little more than 800 pixels of horizontal for the menu screens.

I'm about settled back in from the show, I'll get the camera out today or tomorrow along with the lens that came with it. As for hosting, use the VAM folder, the ftp credentials I sent you are still good.

Gotcha. Don't kill yourself on my account; it'll be next week before I can physically touch anything. As for images, I'm going to optimize file size and shoot for about 1200px horizontal knowing the forum is going to thumbnail them down to 800.

Can you resend the credentials? They're on my old system, which is in storage.

Actually the forum scales them to a percentage of the current window.

Even better, since that's browser/monitor-specific. 1200 should be ample for screenshots, anyway.

SD...do you still want me to do screenshots? If you'll have the T2i it's probably better for you to do them so you can control the flow, but I'm happy to do them this Saturday. Let me know...Ray

Save yourself the work, Ray - if I do them myself, I can let the flow of the tutorial dictate the illustrations. There might be a "Eureka" moment when I realize I have to go into more depth about something.

Idle question - the El-Omegar 75/3.5 is a 39mm Leica thread, right? That's the only fullsize lens I currently have, and it's smaller than M42. Have to come up with an adapter. And while I'm bugging you, as regards my 4 Plan 0.1, am I better off with a flat or cone adapter?

Dave...The 75EO is indeed 39mm. Best adapters are the "helicoil" type that make the thread look like M42 without adding any bulk or length. Plus, they're just a couple bucks. Regarding the 4Plan, I personally prefer the cone adapter. I mostly shoot Cents, and the bellows extension for a 75mm lens shooting Cents is about the same as is needed with the cone adapter shooting varieties, plus the cone puts the objective closer to the coin. It's also slightly easier to get light in as it pushes the lens standard farther away from the coin...Ray

Camera going out this morning. Two packages since Susan packed the camera all nice and forgot to put in the power cord.

You know I sent a lens with it right? The 18-55 or something like that which came with it.

The 18-55 is a nice walkaround lens - underrated, in my opinion - but suboptimal for coin imaging. I've a couple appropriate lenses, the difficulty being getting my hands on appropriate adapters while being temporarily unable to make online purchases.
