Nice job on the pics....my first impression was a little wear on the cap and above the ear and breast...AU58. Good one

I don't think there is any wear on the high points.
My reason for saying this is due to the fact that the fields show so little damage, and that it is not consistent with the extent of the observed flat spotting on the high points. This leads me to the conclusion that the flat spotted high points are not fully struck up. There seems to be lustre on the breast feathers. The lustre would not be there if wearing had taken place.
I see that there is a small rim ding above the 'E.P' on the obverse. With the bruise in this position, it follows that the edge milling should also exhibit some damage at this point.
A few obvious scuffs to be seen on the obv.
I reason that it has be be an MS grade. I think 62 or 3.

Subjective grading at its finest :) I agree that the coin is high AU/low MS.

I agree - not cleaned or over dipped. A coin like this can be dipped and not show any signs of a dip. It's the over dipped coins one needs to be wary of they loose there luster and look positively dull overall.

Nice, original Mint State Morgan. I only have it at 63 because of the large contusions in front of the nose; but for them (and I realize they're far less important to the eye than to a digital camera), this one's a solid 64.

I'm saying MS61 after averaging a 58/60 obverse and a 63 reverse.

The flatness can be the result of a weak strike, but the darker areas, the areas that have lost frost, is where you have rub.
Back of cap Top of cap Above ear On cheek On neck On nose Front hair Eagles chest Eagles legs Wreath
All these points exhibit frost breaks, indicative of light wear. I'm betting this coin never circulated, but spent time in an environment where it was allowed to slide around a little, hence the term slider.

AU55. This coin is NOT mint state. It has circulated.

I should add that there is a slim possibility that because of the photos provided the sharpness of detail is lost but I don't think so. Good luck!

I've looked at this many times now and still think it's a MS coin (typical weak struck Philly) with bag rub. MS62/63. IMHO of course...

still a well... A weakly struck 63. I see absolutely no signs of wear, just bag rub.. & I think the dark spotting is more do to the photos as if appears in more than just the typical wear areas.
