I would argue that the die clashes have nothing to do with the premium on those two coins. One-cent 1953 should fold strikes, with 95% or higher original red lustre, are pretty darn scarce and desirable. The majority of the mint state 1953 shoulder folds I have seen are toned a red-wine colour ('Red Brown' by PCGS standards)...
Nice coins.

SPP: I agree - the bidding for these coins (at least in my case) was not based on the fact that the coin had "hanging" but simple because it was a nice red Shoulder Fold

I disagree to some extent. I think the fact that the 53 SF are "hangers" makes it a little more desirable IMO

If you are interested by "hangers", they can only be found between 1953 and 1964, as the jaw and throat of the queen making the mark only coincide to the last digit of the date for those years. I have found them single, double, triple or quadruple. Here's an exhaustive list, the number in parenthesis tells you if I found single, double etc. 1953nsf(1,2,3), 1953sf(1,2), 1954(1,2,3), 1955, 1956, 1957(1,2,3), 1958(1,5), 1959(1,5), 1960, 1961(1,2), 1962(1,2,4), 1963(1,2,3), 1964(1,4) Now that's just for "hanging". As I collect die clashes, I also have coins that don't have the hanging but will have the date in the throat of the queen, the maple leaf on the back of the neck, etc. I agree with SPP, a single hanging mark doesn't call for much of a premium, but double or more is a little harder to find (for some years) and might be worth a little more.

Hanger shaped die clashes can also be found in the following dates:1991, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. I'm sure the missing dates in between have them too but I haven't found them yet. The hanger on the above coins is in a slightly different position than the 1953-1964 series due to the different effigy on the coin but they are right by the date or through the date.

You can add 1996 to your list. Haven't seen any for 1990, 1992 or 1993.
