Searcher..... Here is my perspective... How OCD are you about having all your coins the same grade? How OCD are you about having a truly COMPLETE set? The reason I ask these questions is that, being late to the game...some of the special issues you will want to acquire fetch some handsome figures in PF/MS 70. Speaking specifically, the MS70 of the 10th Anniversary can bring in the five figures...so I would suggest you first assess your personal needs to have a "satisfying collection" and then adjust what subset of this series you wish to collect to suit those needs and fit within your budget.

I guess I'm not that discriminatory, I have a full set baring the 1995 w and I'm happy enough with the proofs in the OGP. I did purchase off ebay a set of billions in a dansco in 2006 and now I add the new year as it becomes available. I don't buy into the hype of a "70" coin, it's just one persons opinion and I don't think I could tell the difference from a 69 to a 70. The proofs are very appealing as is this one from this year.

That's a beautiful coin. The ASE's seem like a hard thing to collect. There's so many different varieties! The mints, the Unc bs. Proof, the burnished, the special, the reverse proof, so much!

Here is my Two Cents. Collect 69 or 70's can get them at a reasonable price over raw much of the time if you are patient. Well 69's at least. In my area there are no real coins shops available so I had to order over the net. When I first started to collect them I bought a 1996 eagle for a reasonable price at the time the pictures looked good but when I got the coin it was in a airtite but it had a big fingerprint on it that I could not get completely off. Neither did the fingerprint show up in the pictures. So I started buying them slab to ensure I would not have this problem again.

Muddler: Nice coin from the 2013 West Point set... Actually not a proof but called "Enhanced uncirculated" and graded as an MS not PF coin. That set is a great set and I got me quite a few..didn't do much pricewise but still a nice set BTW....it does look more like a proof than an uncirculated ASE

My son and I collect NGC MS69 Brown Labels, we are in it for the collecting and the thrill of the hunt. Perhaps one day we will make back our money but not important now. Don't bother with the MS70's. You will never be able to complete the set. Some years are way out of an everyday collectors price range. PCGS has zero MS70's 1989-1994.
Collect a "finishable" set of matching labels (for all you OCD collectors like me) We also have a Dansco going of bullion issues, all MS coins. These are fun.....fun....to collect, especially for the kids. Many of these coins are really nice looking ANACs or ICG MS69-70 "crack outs" that we picked up fpr spot +. Like smoke said, before all the " big time silver soothsayers" chime in, it's a coin collection. The silver aspect is what it is, it is a fun series to collect.

I thought the enhanced were graded as SP-XX (SP being specimen for the newer collectors out there)

I stand 2/3rd's corrected PCGS...MS NGC....SP ANACS..EU the latter is probably the most appropriate with MS being the least

I have started a slabbed Silver Eagle collection following the years backwards till the new ones come out. Started with MS69's NGC Brown Label. If I can't get the Brown Label for a good price I'll just get a Blue Label. My set I'm working on is a year set not label color. So far so good, but its gonna take a while to get done.

Blue labels are " early releases " , from monster boxes released from the mint within 30 days of the start of the yearly mintage. The brown label is just NGC's standard ASE label, so basically, same coin, different color label. But I like all the socks in my drawer to match

Well, a month has gone by sense this thread began. Still working on my slabbed set of Silver Eagles. I find it enjoyable searching for a good deal, checking the on line dealers and yea even ebay once in a while. My daughter bought me a NGC box that holds 20 of them (for Christmas)...Great Gift! I wonder how the OP The Silver Searcher is making out?

Does anyone have a list of all the different NGC blue early release slabbed versions of the 2013 ASE by chance?

I also am 21 into the set of NGC MS69 ASEs brown labels. Not only am I OCD about them all being the same grade I also want all the labels and holders to match. Once my set is complete I will start swapping them out until I have all edgeview holders.
Coins with a 70 grade are nice but I just can't see paying triple what 69 cost when only an expert could ever tell the difference. I also received a 64 bootlegger graded MS70 from a lesser known company that has scratches all over it.
As long as you don't over pay your collection should hold it's value if not increase, but who really knows what will happen. I would much rather have money in hard form rather than paper.
