As I see it - amazing representation of the Penny design on the big surface. More detailed. And pink (is it really pink?) looks great on the mirrored silver. Much better than gilding.
The Penny from the 2012 Silver Proof set is also great (same design and original size), but this one has better representation.
In my opinion, it outperforms most of the recent "hot" items.

This is one of my favorite coins in my collection right now. Believe it or not, I managed to get the coin for exactly $50 on ebay a couple days ago! $4 below issue price! I got very, very lucky :)

This was the first non circulating coin I ever bought - in the late spring. It was sold out but from a dealer I got it for an extra $10 over initial release price. I bought it because I started collecting pennies as a kid in the 1960s. I think it is lovely and have no regrets about it. Apart from that, I don't have an interest in these types of coins. I am missing a 1948 in my silver dollar collection. I hope to pick one up within the year on ebay, probably spending $1300. To me that will be more satisfying than spending the same amount on a bunch of commemoratives from the mint and a lot easier for my kids to unload should they decide not to continue in coins. Chances are, that 1948 coin will still sell for around $1300 in ten years. We know its track record. I don't want to speculate on spending $1300 on new issue coins. Please don't think I am bashing people who buy many of the Mint's new issues. You are not stupid or reckless. I am just explaining that I don't see the appeal of it for me (apart from the one cent silver penny we are talking about).

It's OK...every collector make his decision what to buy.
Could be,that for some "Pure modern NCLT collector" the 1948 Silver Dollar not different from 1947 one.
But as "penny collector" isn't it better for you to get the 2012 Penny from the 2012 Silver Proof set? It also .9999 Silver, proof, with pink gold plating and the size of the original Penny (1 cent)

Silveroid, I agree. Personally, all QEII voyageur dollars up to 66 are the same tome.

Thats so nice, aswitzer!
Really liked this variety....
For myself I still can not decide - do I want/need the 2012 Proof Silver set (as the last one that has the Penny + special Penny + special Loony double-dated), or just the Penny from this set.

I just got back from my LCS. He had both the 1/25 oz gold coin and the 1/2 oz silver. I really liked the design so I bought both of them.

aswitzer, what is the 2003 penny you have in your picture? Is that a special release as well?
