Thanks for the help. So after stating that I paid a little over $300 for this, you can all start calling me an idiot......Of course, the RedBook would argue with you, but such is life.

My next question is does anyone see any "cleaning" or anything that would bodybag this coin if I submit it?

My first impression was AU 50, after reading others comments it is still AU-ish, say AU 50
I am not an expert on cleaning, but it doesn't look cleaned to me.

tights24,
that is a nice 1928 with a decent strike and not too many distracting bag marks. A dip in acetone might brighten it a bit but I think that 1928s are known to have weaker luster. Personally, I would pay $300 or so dollars for it too so I think you got a good price

I believe the coin would slab at AU, but feel the actual grade of this coin is EF40. This is one of those coins that market grades higher. I like to see some luster for an AU grade and I think that there is too much wear on the feathers to go higher than EF.

I find it very interesting that there is now also the difference between a coin's 'actual' grade and the grade it 'slabs' at hehe... one of those strange curiosities ;)

Unfortunately, my grades rarely agree with the TPG's on the better date coins because I don't believe in market grading. A grade is a grade - the value is all that should change. As a result, I always have to explain my grades vs. the TPG probable grades.

I know how to "market grade"; I just refuse to do it.

From here on in, I'm going to give two grades for each coin - Market Grade, and Susan Grade.

I have to agree with that. The coin market is confusing enough as it is, a grade should be just based on condition unless there's known die wear with a particular coin.....the 1922 no D comes to mind.
