Yes, I purposely had these 1938's graded so that I could have an example of ICCS's grading from G4 to MS65 in this year....I'm missing a couple of mid grades...it's amazing how a VF 30 will go for the same price as a AU 55 on ebay sometimes. |

Hello Dollarman, I am new to your forum and came across it by googling 1938 dollar double hp. I have one in my collection but can not find any information on it. I was hoping you might be able to tell me how rare it might be and an approximate value. It was graded by ICCS as a MS62.

@torgemco, instead of abused I'd call it well spent.
@jobbie, in my observation DHP does not command much of a premium in other years. Normal 1938 is around 175-200 in MS62.

@TheCoinHUnter.....are you the one bidding against me on the oddball grades for 1938 dollars? I'm only partly kidding, because I've noticed some people will pay upwards of $90 for a very poor condition 1938 dollar, meanwhile, you can buy an ICCS AU50 for same amount.....Not recently, but about 3 years ago, I was being outbid on coins that were barely worth melt value, in my attempt to gather a 1938 dollar in every ICCS grade. I don't have an AG3 or VG10 either....nor a VF35, but pretty much all else from G4 to MS65

Tripoli, Not in recent history but many collectors collect the "range" for numerous years.

All 1938 silver dollars are worth more than scrap silver. You coin pictured is worth around $40.  |
