Hey, Pocket Change, Thanks for posting your spreadsheet. I've been using Excel with no problem, but it never occurred to me to use sheets. I had it all on one big long sheet. Thanks.

Quote:It's a bit of a mess... not set up for public consumption... and it's a bit on the simple side (note: formating breaks all over the place if viewing in firefox, on the up-side you'll see all the 'hidden cells' on the down side it looks even worse than normal) http://www.flyte.name/pages/cotd/index.htm Could we get that in an xls version emailed to us?

I know this thread is pretty old, but maybe some people are still watching it.
Some members are working on a database that we will share with anyone. All we need is some volunteers. If anyone would care to join us, click on the link in my signature below.
Thanks!

I recently bought CoinManage Software from Liberty Street on ebay. I like it so far. It has pictures of every year, and coin. You can enter detailed info. upload your own pic of the coin, make reports, needing reports, collection value reports, and if you have PCGS coins it has the pcgs prices updated each and every month. It also gives values for each grade of every coin. I like it. It cost me 37.00 and arrived in 3 days.

I don't recommend the coinmanage software at all. the price is not bad but they have absolutely zero support for setup help and their baurds are so full of spam and trash that you get no help there either. I emailed them about 4-6 times in the last few months that I have had it and have yet to get a response from them. plain and simple it is a money thing for them and will never be worth what you or I paid for it. and yep I really do hope the "programmer" the wrote it is on this site and See's this stay clear of coin-manage Gary

Like Kabiye Lady, just carl and Bobbi above, I use an excel spreadsheet for my collection.
As they point out it is worth the effort to learn how to use it. My spreadsheet has been developed over some years but it contains all the info I require.
Even though I have over 10,000 items entered they are still just on one sheet and it is easy enough to navigate once you get the hang of it. The capacity for a single sheet is 65,000+ lines so no worries about filling it in the near future.
I did at one time have a lot of my coins scanned in but I found it was time and memory consuming. Then I recently found Don Norris's http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed / site and it's great. You just register and you can log in your collection. Very easy to use and there are pictures for most of the coins featured although it doesn't feature individual years.

I made an Excel sheet. item, qty, premium (a little lower them what stores charge). What to link the price to spot so then ( ) I added a DATA-WEB Connection that gets the spot price from Kitco.com and updates all the prices. Spot price * (1+premium%) * QTY. Works like a charm. Still working on perfecting it. I can make a template for someone if they want it. Just send me a PM and I can email it to you.

I've not found a coin collecting program I like, free or commercial. I thought about the spreadsheet idea but I like pictures of my coins with my inventory.
I've decided to write my own coin program. Using a MySQL database to store data and images and VB for the application to add, view and modify coins which is in progress. Eventually I'll write a php web interface to view (so my family and friends know what I want for Christmas). :)

Does anyone here use Microsoft Access to Catalogue their collection? I know it can be useful if you are using tables, but I'm not to sure about how to start it up. If I could get a copy of someones program and change it to suit my needs I would be really grateful.

I'm working on a php script using mysql to input & store my data..I might make it available for folks on here. I find it easier to use php/mysql because you can edit it on the fly.

-> Hi arthrene - I concur with Kabiye_Lady's and just_carl's sentiments - If you don't want to pay for Coin Inventorying software, Excel is a good great program to learn and an excellent skill to attain for use in the working world. Using it to manage your coins is a great way to learn Excel and gain a marketable skillset. -> cownas22 - I also use CoinManage and love it. I would not go back to using Excel or raw Access for managing a collection. -> garylcsr - I concur that Liberty Street's support needs significant improvement. That said, I know what software development costs, as managing programmers is one aspect of my profession. For $39.95 I believe it's a fair price, given its features, and considering what many folks on here like myself regularly pay for a single coin. Also, it may not be fully understood by folks that the underlying database system that CoinManage uses is MS Access-based and can be opened by MS Access (and Excel for that matter) - (Though I wouldn't recommend it!) - Just my Two Cents worth...

Haha. I googled "freeware world coin collecting database website software" and this is the first link that isn't spam lol. Cant escape you guys. You are the best. :D
I read all the posts above and he xls sheets are all gone and the link in the person's signature for the community database is gone but I am still looking for a solution. :)
Is that database still in production? Or not enough volunteers over time?
And has anyone tried using the Google Docs/Drive spreadsheet software? I think that might be what I go with if the database isn't up anymore because that way I could share the spreedsheet publicly and it would be like having the database on the web without having to program one.
Comments?
Thanks as always!
