I've seen gilded. As I expected it didn't touch my feelings (let alone colored) so instead I've bought more of the same common Benin elephants.

Yup, I did pick up a 2003 Zambia elephant but haven't dug any deeper. Not many around and premiums seemed high. I find the 2003 looks most like it belongs with the Somalia series anyway.
The Gilded one looks nice, but also too high a premium.
I wonder what the next coin in this series will be like.

Yea they are.. BUT.... I think in this enviroment, as PM prices drop, these are the coins you buy and add to your collection. To me, seeing silver drop is a great time to snatch up coins that are missing in my collection.
Bekiz, are buying these in rolls or how? If dont mind me asking.. you know you really should be blogging about this sort of stuff, you have much experince with these type coins.

yup, I've totaled Benin elephants to 10 coins, gonna sell some in Japan right now, and keep some for several years. Blogging about coins - good idea, may be some day in the future ... for now I prefer discussing coins in open forum with you guys as I have better idea of what is going on and what the trends are. Yup, I agree with you about silver being low and some coins are more affordable than before. The good thing about coins and silver is there are issues that were minted in the past with extremely low mintage. The coins were unnoticed back then and gaining popularity right now. The examples are 1974-1976 wild life series - 36 coins with the total mintage up to 7000 coins. Different countries, different animals, great designs. Another example I've bought several sets of Equatorial Guinea 1980 four coins with mintage of 1000 coins. The coins were not available a year ago and out of a sudden some appeared in the market for about $60-70 a piece. Current issues of coins are not even close to these issues as coins now are issued in tens of thousands and often lack good designs. here is Pakistan, about 35 gr

I just received the 2015 Benin elephant and it looks great. Is there any info on if this will be a set number series or ongoing as long as there's interest.

hey Silverleaf! I just won an auction for one,,, boy has the price dropped hard on these, even the 2014 can be gotten for about a 40% discount on ebay on auctions. Did you see the 2015 kilo Benin elephants? As far as your question, I am not sure,,,, I sure wish they did a proof one tho...

Hey Yup,
I have not seen the kilos but I bet they're nice. Is there much of a premium on them.
How much did you score your 2015 for. Its still a big pre!ium for a bullion coin but I feel a little better that allegedly a portion of the cost is for elephant conservation. I'm not a flipper anyway.:)

Hey Silverleaf!
oh man let me tell u, prices on bullion coins are dropping, and if you are collector, NOW is the time to bid auctions and place the bid near the spot price with a premium to it.
Why?
WELL, my data shows all the folks... that bought this dip have evaporated, so now that silver rose, there is very little panic and appetite to bid on coins... as usual the public at large has it completely wrong on how to buy silver, which is sad but hey not my money.
Now that silver prices are rising, folks clearly are running away from bidding, which has left less bidder and prices are dropping hard since last week. LOL I laugh my heart out how dealers take low spot prices, mark it up and people actually bid for it... THEN when theres a rise in price, people dont bid and there is no panic ... it does make me laugh my heart out really.. and then at the same time it is sad that people clearly are not paying attention to prices.... its all on impulse.
Last week I picked up a 2015 Benin for 47.25 and 2015 gilded somalia elephant for 41,, now they are going for less than that this week.. NOW is the time to shop for elephant coins and Benin as bidders, AKA the general public "thinks" silver is too expensive, so bidders are lacking... which is silly, because they created the panic as prices drops and the dealers, knowing the psychology of the public, jacked up prices....
so the best time to buy is after the drops in price in spot metals if you are collecting. Hey I'll take advantage of this scenario.. which as prices continue to drop, the public will become emotionally drained as they see they did not get a deal...

Nice buys. I paid almost $10 more on my Benin just a few weeks ago. I'd like to find some gilded Somalia elephants at that price. I've never picked up any because if the cost.
Great time for new purchases. Less so for past purchases.:)

@silverleaf well, just stalk ebay everyday,,, and the best time to buy is when silver prices RISE.... as the public backs off, dealers then can't play off the "panic" of silver dropping... I will NEVER EVER understand what the obsession is with paying for silver as it drops but paying the dealers premium. Right now tho, is the BEST enviroment to buy coins if you are a collector. I also picked up a day and night set for 2015,, so happy. the only somalia elephant I have left is a bullion version which I am going to let the suckers get wore out and then start throwing my bids in lol
