isn't the definition of money laundering exchanging counterfeit money for the real thing?

No, no, money laundering is the taking of cash and exchanging it for new cash...legally speaking, the cash that's being exchanged needs to be from some criminal activity to be a crime to launder it. It isn't a crime to take $500 and buy a box of halves (which would be an odd way to launder money, to be sure), but if you ordered too many at once, a bank might get suspicious and file a report of suspected money laundering.
In other words, just make sure you're not committing crimes, and you should be fine no matter what you do! (Note the word "should")

"Made in Taiwan" Since this was referred to in the plastic pennies thread I looked at the company and what if this is really used as money in schools over there? It does say "SCHOOL MONEY" in palce of "IN GOD WE TRUST". What a haunting though that That it could be made by school kids there as well. All items certificate of conformity are t Taiwan regulations and they do NOT conform to Us regulations for "COPY" money. They don't say "COPY" anywhere and people are finding them in rolls? How is this company/woman legally selling these out of Colorado? It is definitely counterfeiting.

Some time back, I discussed this with my wife, who is a teacher. She said if you use real coins to teach children how to count with pennies, nickels, dimes, etc., the children will steal them. If you use plastic coins, the children assume no one will accept them as real money.

Real Cents say "School Money" on them, and have stars instead of a date?

I found a plastic cent in a machine-wrapped coin roll once. It doesn't look exactly like OP's "coin", but a similar idea I guess. I remember using these in elementary school. Here's the one I found:

Quote: Real Cents say "School Money" on them, and have stars instead of a date? By federal law the copy of a coin has to has a specific font, font size and the word COPY on it as seen here. Those from that bag do not. How often do people look for or even know where to find "IN GOD WE TRUST" on al the coins now especially with the quarter designs in circulation going to be 115 after the ATB are finished? Not sure if that is the correct font on this one, but still the stars and such dont really mean anything if it isn't following the rules. Otherwise why would even a plastic coin need the word copy on it? Guess that is what you get from Taiwan and nobody checking them as they come out of Colorado? There is another thread around where the specifics on how to legally make a copy of a coin are detailed, but my finding skills are not finding it today.

Pretty clear signal how worthless a penny is these days. You can't even buy a fake penny with a penny.

You could never do that, how else would they make a profit on the things. The cheapest I ever saw them was 50 for $1. I recall those from years back also having a wider rim on them so the couldn't fit in a roll like these look like they do since people found them in rolls.

SO neither are legal copies then? Both of the play money are technically forgeries or counterfeit or something like that?

Add to all that the fact they have been passed off as cash, and we got a federal case here. Who is going to call the Secret Service?
