Nope I meant Snow-14.
I was looking at the die marks above and under the ear.
Honestly, I don't see the listing...because there is no S-14 for 1863. At least I don't see it.

I only said Snow-4 because it looks the closest match on RPD and date position in my book. I honestly can't see any RPD in the second ebay link--except a possible MPD in the denticles under the 6--unlisted though.

Waxemm, I agree. It appears to be S14. The die file marks are the confirming attribution. The only thing that confuses me is that there appears to be repunching inside the upper loop of the 8. Snow makes no mention of this. Then again it could just be a shadow.

My copy of the Snow guide shows 18 Snow varieties for 1963.
The second link you have to scroll down to the other pictures to see it. It shows the punch in the lower loop of the 8 & 6.
The first link only has the punch in the 6. That along with the die scratches matches his S-14 description.

Your coin seems to show repunching in the upper loop of the 8, not the lower loop.

Mine says it's Volume 2 2nd Edition.
It's on page 69 of my PDF version.

PDF editions must be different--I have the print version, 2E. Page 69 on mine is into 1864.
Anyway--good spots!

Waxemm-My pdf. version of the attribution guide is the 4th printing (2008) of the 2nd. edition. It comes in 4 volumes. There are no page numbers and the 1863 IHC has only 16 varieties listed. There are no additional pictures of the S14 variety that I can link to. This is what got me confused about your description of the variety. I think I bought this edition about 3 years ago. Do you have an updated newer printing than mine. I thought mine was the latest edition but apparently not.

Thanks, that explains why I couldn't follow your line of reasoning. I was missing some information. It would be nice if you could just buy the updates.

Beagle I think some of the confusion came from the second link I posted that had the Snow 4.

You are correct the first link I posted does appear to have some punching in the upper loop, or like you said maybe shadow.
It does not show mention of this in the Snow book.

I would buy just the pages I need--rather than the whole year in electronic format--that's like buying the guides twice.
