I have been checking since my 1st post and I believe they are called Japanese Hoei Silver Mameita-Gin (Bean Money),but I cannot find an image exactly like these. These and many other coins from around the world were found in my inlaws attic after my Father in law passed away. I am finding some great stuff-- Hawaiian Kingdom coins,Lafayette-washington comemarative dollars,1885 cc morgans,a bunch of 1870 seated liberties. I've been going through them for a couple weeks and new interesting stuff pops up all the time. With the bean money was 2-3 gold Kobans from japan as well.

Yeah I'm a new collector aswell about a month, it's very addictive :). You will learn so much here, as I've been. The amount resources online are amazing, and you get to be a caretaker of history :D. You have some really nice coins that you found, that's a great start to any collection. I was just looking at some 1885 cc's and they're a sort after item.

Just got the bad news from a dealer in Japan:
Dear burroughs1331,
The coin in the image sent by you, is a fake replica coin,
just have a look at the original one in the attached image.
- jpnumiz.webstore I didn't include his picture cause he said there should be nothing on the back side of the piece, live and learn I guess.

I'd get that checked out on here, because a similar one is faked. But your one has the three little clip bits on the reverse of the coin packaging holding it. The fake ones I saw were without those. Get the guys on here to double check, because there is a similar replica that uses similar packaging to the real one.

Here is a site with some information, http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewart...-dollar-fake . Now if you look at the back of the fake the coin holder doesn't have those 3 small black bits holding the reverse of the coin. I'd definitely get it double checked on here, but I've a feeling it's alright. It's abit late here right now, but I'll help in the morning :D.

The Japan dealer was talking about the bean money, not the 85 Morgan. I've already checked the Morgan out enough to be sure it's good.

Oh cool, I thought you meant the Morgan. Sorry about that I was tired talking/reading lol. Did he say what type of replica's they're are? souvenirs, counterfeits?

I'll be going after all kinds. The stuff I inherited spans the whole world. My wife's Gfather was career us army and he collected money from all over, the problem is it's all mixed together and taking a long time to divide into proper groups.

This shows how observant I am:Just noticed that you're in the UK.I just finished a job getting a house ready for the English Embassy here.Every three years a new UK military family moves in/out. We've gotten to be friends with some and my wife and daughters actually stayed with some that cycled back to England.

If you're talking about sorting and checking a jumbled collection you're going to have a whale of a time.
Don't know if you're talking about a few hundred or even thousands but first thing is set aside an area big enough to sort them.
First get them all sorted into countries, then denominations , then years. Try and get the catalog numbers as you go along and start up a spreadsheet to make a note of what you've got.
As I said I think you're going to have a blast that will stay with you for a long, long time.
