Hopefully the hairs aren't curly :)
Is it on of those years of sets where you can easily open the case without damaging it, remove the hairs, and then close again?

Better in your proof set than in your food.

Take trent's advice. Since these cases are designed to oen and close fairly easily and leave no trace that they have been opened, just open it and remove the offending hairs. Then close the case again.

Great advice. I am going to take out hairs and now go to find a video showing how to open the case..

An update. I cracked open the set and removed hair without any trouble. BUT the long hair has already left two contact mark an inch long each on the Kennedy half dollar. I do not know whether the marks are permanent or whether a trip to acetone will do any good.

It will probably depend on what was on the hair. I feel that acetone would be worth the effort to know for certain.

I would just leave it. If the hair had any chemicals in it (hair color, bleach, a perm) putting it in acetone could create a chemical reaction on the coin and cause even more damage.

Two additional hairlines developed after acetone rinse. I guess this is the chemical residue left over from the hair. I would speculate that these hairlines will happen anyway over time if the chemical is left along on the coin. In conclusion acetone bath does not work.

It probably would have happened. You just sped up the process.

You know there was a few surprise issues that had Kennedy's hair in it.

I doubt that Mr. Kennedy would use nasty chemical on his hair. Most likely a dyed hair from someone.
