I think that the coin has been retoned. I won't say its been cleaned though, just something about the colors. (Could be and probably is the pictures) If I had seen this on ebay, I would of bid it up to about $150.00, taking a chance on it. Nice details on teh coin thats for sure, the mark on the cheek is in a bad place though.

It looks cleaned and AT'd to me. It has pretty nice eye appeal, but I'd pass.

Hmmm, I am going to check around still. He's down to $180 firm, which I am gathering is not a bad deal from most of your input. He says that it hasn't been "heated" and give off some rainbow toning with mostly blues and reds. I am going to HA and look at other graded coins to see if there are any on there that have similar toning. Thanks and keep the opinions coming. Decisions, Decisions...if I didn't need it for my type book it wouldn't be as big of a dilemma as it appears to be as nice as any I have seen. It appears he's a bad photographer or may have over-enhanced the pictures using Photoshop or something. Here are some additional pix he has. This one is suppposed to be more representative of the coin: These are the same views as I originally posted that have/have not been enhanced.

I don't know much, but if he says it's MS63, I'd think it would be AU. I like the luster on it...maybe it was dipped? I like the blue toning on it. I'm pretty sure that you would always be able to sell it pretty easily because a lot of people like the blue toning on copper coins. The RedBook lists MS60 for $350...so think why the major discount? If you really like it and it feels right for you, then go for it.

He said I can return it within 7 days if I don't like it for any reason, so I may as well go for it and I'll take it to my local shop and get their opinion. Thanks all! I'll post pics upon receiving it!

OK I got the 1/2 cent today. It has awesome details and believe it or not it "cartwheels" under the light similar to a nice Morgan. I don't think someone can AT a coin and get that effect, am I wrong?
I will be posting some pics later tonight.

It is a very pretty coin and I think you did well for $180.00. I think that the toning is due to a past dipping (very long ago) and retoning. If a coin is dipped properly, it can retain its cartwheel luster. If it's not completely rinsed, the residue from the dip can cause toning like this. I see the coin as definitely having uncirculated details. I reiterate that I think you got a very good deal on this coin for $180. Congratulations!
