Nice coins gnome,
there are a few in the ANS auction this month that I was thinking about bidding on. They are not as nice as the ones you have, these are pretty low grade, but some really neat die cracks. I must get to work on the way you grade over there, it is a little different.
I wonder how many coins were minted like yours before they realized it was cracked.

G'day Dave, I actually started a set of progressing diecracks on the 1926 6d's, but as usuall this fell by the wayside at the moment.I haven't got around to photographing them all at present.
You can also find some nice ones on the 1922 6ds. Will have to do some pics of those to show you.

Now that's a great looking coin, cracks all the way through the date are pretty neat, I have a few but not that pronounced.

Not a die crack but a nice find today at the Perth fair.
The so-called 1933/32 halfpenny overdate.

I've heard of the 33/32 penny, didn't know there was a Half Penny overdate. Did you purchase it as the variety, or did the seller not know?

Great find,

They didn't know. I bought it seeing what I saw as doubling at the top of the 3 and thought it might be and a good look at home and showing the pics to someone who had seen these before got a smile from me. This is the first time I had seen one. I did say at the time it could be and they joked about upping the price tenfold lol.

Hello secretsquirrel,
I'm not sure how the dealers are over there about the varieties, but it seems here in the US they don't quite take the time to search for these coins. I know in the Indian cent series, I pick up one or two each show, some even certified with out realizing it's a variety.
I guess if you have thousands of coins to go through, it's hard to check each and every one, all the better for us.

Again, Great find I'm jealous

Most of the time they dont get looked for unless they have staff assigned for that purpose.
The small dealers have more time to look but even half of them dont bother because they dont make enough out of them.
I saw one lot of coins at the fair with pages of broadstrikes and I was drooling until I saw the prices.
The more common basic ones we can pick up for $10 were priced at $80 so you can imagine the pricesw on the half decent ones. I soon walked away from that stand.

How many tables(dealers do you usually have at your coin shows? We have about 6 to 8 big shows a year with 100 to 120 tables and numerous 50 to 60 table shows. I live in St. Louis Missouri, one of the bigger cities, lot of coin collecting action here.
I just received my Australian pre-decimal coin varieties book from Newcastle, thanks again shane. I will have a lot to keep me busy for the next few days.

Hello Everyone,
well after reading my Australian pre-decimal coin variety book, I am amazed at all of the varieties attributed by additional dots and die cracks. I must learn more about the minting process, the thing about the extra and misplaced dots really has me confused. I have a 1943 penny with a small dot at the roo's nose, there is a variety like that, but this one doesn't meet the other requirements. I wonder how these dots got there, one variety simply described as numerous dots along roo's back, how does that happen?

I am looking for minting info now, if anyone can explain this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. Thought I'd post the 43 with the dot, I guess it's pretty common to have these all over the coin.
