I think EC222 was generally speaking, which of course is correct. Lots of nice greasers out there the best I've found have been 1972, 1992, and 2000. At $2500, adding the 1996 would be delightful!! Funny thing: I traded one of my 2000 greasers for a couple of AU/BU S mint LMCs. I may have gotten the short end of the deal!!  |

I was curious the approximate value for this also? I know ebay is no way to get an idea...wish there was a way to see what price things that have already sold went for on ebay...mabi there is? Any help on that? |

You use "the 2000 Greaser" just as one would use "the 1955 doubled die". The difference is, I would know what coin you were talking about in regards to a 1955 doubled die. Quote:

The only reason I'd keep the 1996 is because it is largely missing the date - something that many collectors find interesting. I really wouldnt expect much out of it. I really don't think there's a market outside of ebay or a coin forum. I'd expect to net less than a dollar on ebay after fees (and I'd only do it because I enjoy selling on ebay). |

I had jumped to the conclusion that it was a 2000 just by the obverse (looked like my 2000). Had I looked at the reverse design, I wouldn't have made that mistake. Oh well, no big deal - all good EC. But I agree that the myriad of combinations between dies, the opportunity for a variety of packed features, and missed process checks can create opportunities like these for any given year. Finding the ones with the most missing details is the challenge. Found last night -  |

Thanks John - I was afraid of hijacking your thread, but the finding was timely. The best specimen of a Jefferson Greaser I've come across. I'm waiting for Coop to put up something outrageous (nickel-wise)!!  |

I assume. It was posted on a forum and I asked to use the image. Never though of asking at the time. I have images I've saved from forums for the past 15 years.
