No point sending it to ICCS, it's definitely a Chinese made counterfeit. It is a criminal offence to possess or sell these coins in Canada, if you have the seller's personal information you have leverage to get your money back.

they would be the ones but dont hold your breath..Because you bought it in this manner they might say Caveat Emptor " Buyer Beware " But You can tell the seller you already reported it and as long as you get refund you wont proceed... Then you can turn it over to the RCMP ....

Thanks for all your help folks. In the end I kept the coin as a mere reminder and something to learn from.
I also didn't realize how bad Quebec was for fake currency. It's apparently the capital of Canada for fakes, so I'm more leary of that now as well.
Thanks again everyone!

If you know it's illegal to possess the coin, why would you keep it? why not get your money back. I'm shaking my head.

here is your coin next to a known Fake (MM-Nickelsguy-CD) you be the judge. should be easy. Sorry for the bad news. But, it appears that your coin is not exactly from the same Chinese "die". they make the purposely a bit Not so sharp in order to divert you from the real issues. there are better forgeries on the market now. I believe this on to be an older one.

It looks like a different die for the obv,
- space in the 9 is different shape - ribbon and leaves at bottom are closer to rim - 5 is slightly more closed - Hard to tell do to wear, but some of details look more refined on op's
They are definitely getting better with details, but this is still off.

They both look like the same bad "Spaghetti Western" to me . There is just such romance when Greed, Stupidity, and The King of Wishful Thinking all have a bit part in this movie! Really a 5 K coin on Kijiji for $200 and a plausible story. Sometimes you DO reap what you sew!

Knowing that there are a considerable number of 1921 5 cent fakes out there, I looked around a bit and found another 1921 5 cent (not on ebay). The big question here is: is it a fake or is it authentic? Whatever you decide it is, please give us your reasons for it.
