"The bidding activity seems fishy too."

hmmmm. Possibly. There is a bidder with 0 feedback in there that ran it up a bit, but the big bidders sure have ample feedback on their own accounts. Remove the 0 feedback bidder from the equation, and the bidding still looks like it would have gotten that high.

Even with the crappy pics the surfaces look funky. Same bidder (a**2) bidding up the coin consecutively & then the reverse designation of that didder (2**a) bidding it up again. How many "red flags" do people need. PT Barnum would be proud.

Some things have been mentioned that I noticed, some not.

Her feedback is odd at best, with two negatives being associated with the sale (one uncompleted) of a high priced breast pump.

I don't like the description at all, especially the "'MS' quality" thing (where did she get that?) and the business that it "comes in a coin case and has been in coin case for over 30 years!" The latter statement, of course, even if true, doesn't preclude its being a fake, as such were around then. I also take note of the seller's "no return" policy, which is always something of a red flag.

The pictures are certainly inadequate, with the coin looking fairly listless overall. If genuine, maybe AU cleaned? It'd still be a pretty big buck coin even so - again, if it's real.

Given the totality of the circumstances, I'm not a player on this one, nor would I likely ever be, and I didn't call attention to it to induce anyone to make a bid (in fact, I'd strongly recommend against that). However, it will be interesting to see how much somebody is going to pony up for this longshot.

Bad pictures, probably cleaned, not slabbed, suspicious seller----nope, nope, nope, and nope. That many bids on an item like that is just kind of sad.

Not me.

Someone might (theoretically) be convinced to make use of a throwaway account at a ridiculous overbid - never intending to pay - in order to ensure the coin never falls into the hands of the unknowing....

I've probably had ebay pay me back several thousand dollars via Buyer Protection over the past 18-24 months. It just works.

At the risk of straying off topic, you make it sound as if any ebay purchase, however ill-considered, essentially boils down to "playing with the house's money." Your personal experience notwithstanding, is it in fact a slam dunk that ebay always comes down on the side of the buyer? Do you have enough faith in that to always bid on a dubious item such as this? Because it will only take its once going against you to blow your system up.

With all respects to you personally.

Has anyone ever blocked your bids?
