Just recently got mine, a 1972 Ike dollar, and keep forgetting to put it in my pocket.

I've thought of doing that with mine as well (put in an airtite). Haven't yet, but in my opinion, a pocket piece in an airtite is just as much of a pocket piece (technically) as one without, so long as you do carry it around.
My pocket piece (Polish 20 zlotych) goes in the watch pocket of my jeans, doesn't show much more wear than it did when I bought it (bought it as a VF-XF). Probably due to how I carry it. It does show a couple new hairlines though (very small and hard to see).

matteproof, I love the way the reverse is showing wear. Take pictures of it every month or every 3rd month and get a "flip book" over the years to come of it's wear.

Okay. Here is a recent post that I believe what a pocket piece is for. @ASEnut I guess your pocket piece is used for "show and tell"

I only have one photo of my pocket piece, which is this over-exposed photo did on a pencil shaded background after it became my pocket piece after a few days. It's a pretty coin (except for the spots), perhaps a borderline between MS and AU (the photo is too overexposed to show the scratches). This was from my first batch of Voyageur dollars, in April. This is how it looks like now. There's not too much wear yet except on the highest points of the hair and cheek and the big area of the neck. Honestly it's a bit hard to wear it down when it's being carried in a bag, since jeans have pockets so small I'm afraid I will drop this when I walk around. And here's something I just noticed a while ago: there is ghosting on the reverse. Maybe you can see it in the photo that the date and trees are a bit weak. I didn't notice that before it became my pocket piece. By the way, does anyone know what the spots are? They are on the coin and they don't reflect much light under normal conditions and appear dark grey, but appear milky-white when blasted with strong white light.

I lost my pocket piece, I must have dropped it from my jacket pocket when I was walking around Toronto Island. A bit sad that I won't get to wear it down anymore, but it's not too much of a big deal since it's not a high-value coin and I only paid face for it (plus transport and effort to look for it).

I love pocket piece threads! I'm currently carrying a 1971 Blue Ike, a bicentennial Kennedy and a 2007 Adams. Had the Adams since practically new, got it as change on the Metro in DC in 2008. Took photos of it back around 9/15/2012: Here it is today: I didn't take pictures of the Blue Ike before tearing open the celo and plopping it in my pocket. It was unremarkable and hazy. It's developing slowly and is hard to get decent photos of. Here were the best: I do love the way pocket wear brightens a coin up. Reserving judgement on the Ike for another year or so, I do love the way it rings when flipped.

I didn't discover my interest in coins until I moved up to Canada, but when I found my first US dollar worth keeping as a pocket piece, I snagged it up. The piece was already well, well worn when it fell into my hands, including the nice hole, but I've sure polished it up nice and mirror-like! It's a nice little reminder of what I've always liked most about homeland coinage and also serves as a piece of silver should I ever need it in emergency!
