Need Help With Opening $5 Canada 1973 Coin Capsule

sg93 Valued Member 294 Posts	Posted 08/26/2014 03:46 am as per title, I tend to go for these commemoratives only when they're in their capsule, and I got this for melt or just around there, but taking a closer look I found dust on the coin, in the capsule, and the capsule had already shown signs of tamper. tried cracking the face of the capsule and crushing the edges to no avail. I also do not know if the capsule is a screw-on or snap together like the air-tite. can somebody help? Report this Post to the Staff

Numismat Pillar of the Community United States 1666 Posts	Posted 08/26/2014 04:51 am There should be a seam all around the "corner" of one of the flat sides. Wedge something in there, like the tip of a thin knife blade, and angle it in so that the tip pushes on the inner piece of the capsule. Just watch your fingers. If not having any luck with that try lightly tapping around the edge with a hammer, while standing in up on a surface, and rotating as you do. That has worked for me but not as quick as the first method and usually cracks the sides of the capsule so you can't reuse it. Edited by Numismat 08/26/2014 04:51 am Report this Post to the Staff
