Members who carry a pocket piece: have you gotten it to a noticeably lower grade just by carrying it around? Post images of your progress, and let us know what condition it was in when you started. Edited by wheatchaser140 08/15/2014 1:54 pm

I carry an 1807 English penny. I bought two of them for $1 out my dealers junk box. They were both black as coal to the point of only a faint outline dicernable. The one I carry in my purse has lost much of the black and now people can see the details when I show them. You should see the response when a cashier asks if I have penny.

Before I type anything, I apologize for the coin not being "significantly worn," but "visibly worn." I've carried around a 2013 ASE for about 9 months now. Before: BU with a couple of hits that were caused when I dropped it and was no longer "Pristine"(the reason why I started just using it as a pocket piece). Just really the ordinary ASE you see. After: The highest points of Liberty's skirt and her head has worn off. Not worn too much, but still you don't see a circulated ASE everyday so I thought I'd post.

I've thought of doing that with mine as well (put in an airtite). Haven't yet, but in my opinion, a pocket piece in an airtite is just as much of a pocket piece (technically) as one without, so long as you do carry it around.
My pocket piece (Polish 20 zlotych) goes in the watch pocket of my jeans, doesn't show much more wear than it did when I bought it (bought it as a VF-XF). Probably due to how I carry it. It does show a couple new hairlines though (very small and hard to see).

matteproof, I love the way the reverse is showing wear. Take pictures of it every month or every 3rd month and get a "flip book" over the years to come of it's wear.

Okay. Here is a recent post that I believe what a pocket piece is for. @ASEnut I guess your pocket piece is used for "show and tell"

I only have one photo of my pocket piece, which is this over-exposed photo did on a pencil shaded background after it became my pocket piece after a few days. It's a pretty coin (except for the spots), perhaps a borderline between MS and AU (the photo is too overexposed to show the scratches). This was from my first batch of Voyageur dollars, in April. This is how it looks like now. There's not too much wear yet except on the highest points of the hair and cheek and the big area of the neck. Honestly it's a bit hard to wear it down when it's being carried in a bag, since jeans have pockets so small I'm afraid I will drop this when I walk around. And here's something I just noticed a while ago: there is ghosting on the reverse. Maybe you can see it in the photo that the date and trees are a bit weak. I didn't notice that before it became my pocket piece. By the way, does anyone know what the spots are? They are on the coin and they don't reflect much light under normal conditions and appear dark grey, but appear milky-white when blasted with strong white light.
