So I went to the TOP 100 list Coop posted...what is it that makes the TOP 100...what's the criteria: desirability, rarity, obvious example...? What makes the list?

This is the CONECA top 100, so I'm thinking they chose what they thought were the best.

AMB, how are you posting all this stuff like every 30 minutes? You CRH or just digging through pocket change? What's your secret?

@scott... Finally going through huge numbers of coins one handful at a time. Books are filled so I'm learning about errors...finding one and I'm hooked, there's something in every handful, mostly RPMs...double dies had me stumped til yesturday...now that I've found a few class 6's it's easy to scan and locate...even though far and fewer. The secret is in numbers...I've got thousands of pennies to go through that were put away and forgotten yrs ago. @coincollector: that's neat! Ok my next challenge! Thx

Nice, I am still learning myself. I have been through about 50 boxes so far and trying to learn something new everyday, but the more I learn the more I think about all the things I could have already passed up not knowing what I had haha. I do need to know what the "markers" are, it seems to be what everyone is using to find out what they have. Good luck AMB, and every pic you post is giving me something else to look for.

@scott, separate them for now in some order, yr-mm...then get familiar with coppercoins.com Do the die search and start with RPM's...it's the least frustrating and success inevitable. Sticking to 1 particular yr you know what to scan the coin for and the search becomes far more easier. I'm totally new to it and it took lots of disappointing posts to figure it out...post what you find and who cares if you are off or wrong...it's a learning experience, no harm no foul.

Thanks AMB, yeah I have posted a lot of photos getting excited and thinking I had something only to get the dreaded "nope PMD", but that's why I like this site, everyone is helpful and they don't talk down to us noobs haha.

Actually I got a lot of that...but sometimes it wasn't the correct assessment. Richard Cooper...aka coop,... watch for his posts or responses, he has the knowledge and authority to accurately correct or point out the error. He's a great help and you'll see his responses frequently. I think a few people jump towards PMD to quickly and should afford at least a reason behind their thoughts....not that they are wrong but it helps understand "die wear vs die scratch vs an anomaly vs clip chip and washer coin" lol. I've seen it all and in fact have had some deciding PMD when it was later discovered an RPM or double die...this morning in fact on my 1946 double die. Again everyone is trying and mean no harm, so if you are certain, push to have a coin looked at again and again until you are satisfied the answer is accurate and correct. And never take anything personally...it's not worth a penny.

All learn something from even incorrect items. I try to answer why I feel that is "?", so I try not to say Yes or No, but why. When I do that all benefit. Many also benefit from the DVD I mention in my signature line. See what could be out there gives us more as to what to look for.
