If he's at 2750, I doubt you'll be able to make a deal.

Guy was an idiot, told me someone offered him 25 per each Franklin dollar Hahahaha. Only came down to 2400 in price I was like gtfo. Did buy two coins though, 1924 Peace and 1880 S morgan for a combined $40. Overpaid a little but needed both as fillers and the Morgan had sweet toning on the reverse

Had a beat up 1902 morgan and told me it was worth $100 , could barely read the date and the edges were shot

Odd no one is mentioning dates and/or mint marks. That alone could make a massive difference. For example what if one of the Walking Liberty halves was a 1921 and Uncirc. I surely wouldn't just buy those for Silver. You should go there and get a complete listing of dates and mints.
Otherwise just buy a lottery ticket.

You did not overpay for the two dollars you bought. I'm a little confused here with the numbers though. If you got two for $40 wouldn't that mean he would have sold you the lot of dollars for $700 at that price? That would have been an OK price. I can easily sell 35 Morgans for $800-$850. Most dealers are paying $23-$25 per Morgan/Peace around here.

I looked through everything and the walking libertys were all common dates, made a cheat sheet off my Red Book before I met him.

And right?!! He was psycho, told me each morgan would get him at least 45 online, dropped his price
On the 2 I wanted from 100 to 45 real quick

Look out for his listings on ebay, should be a good laugh for everyone

I've never managed to buy a coin from a pawn shop at a reasonable price.

I'm not interested in modern gold and many pawn shops don't lend except on gold.

The few others that do, don't know how to grade so when they're selling just take the highest price shown in the catalogue (ie Unc or BU).

That might be OK except the coins on offer generally are lesser grades.

Some pawn shops also offer fake coins as if they were genuine - I've no idea whether they know they're fakes or not.

he just happened to find them? I doubt that. I would think it was a pawn that came in when silver was realitivly high and now he is trying to recoup some value by talking you into buying them as collector pieces.

Well if he wants those prices he's gonna have a hard time finding the right sucker(s) to purchase them. Don't be shocked when he gives you a call back and asks you again if you are still interested. Stick to your guns cause if he does lower the price then he wants to sell and will be willing to bargain. If you feel safe with him wave the cash in his face that does the trick sometimes.

Sorry for late response guys, but
Pertinax, I checked all the coins to make sure they were legit and not fakes, the two I got (will upload) were legit.

Tryna, by found he meant like he was cleaning out his shop and forgot he had them from someone pawning them who knows when and yeah he was thinking that I was trying to buy them as a collector (which I would have if they were in better condition/were rare)

Badtothebone,
Yeah I'm sticking to my guns and hopes he calls me back whenever he finds out that Franklins are not worth 20 a pop and that his 1921 Morgans aren't worth 50 a pop. He saw my wad of cash when I paid for the two dollars I got, I'm hoping that is something he will keep in mind (we met at a local starbucks so I felt pretty safe)
