The coins are shipping tomorrow, unfortunately they authenticated it as a 1916-S Item Date Mint Denom Variety Grade Shipped Date Carrier Tracking FedEx Finalizing 451xxxx 1916 S 10C MERCURY 2 10/28/2014 FedEx Finalizing The good news is the 1881-S Morgan I posted awhile back is a MS66!!, and the 1946 DDR walker I posted recently is coming back as a MS-64!! I will post the slabs back to those topics when coins are in hand, hopefully by Thursday.. I am contemplating sending in the 1942/1 D Mercury. I am pretty sure it is the overdate. find it here... https://goccf.com/t/189050

So close. Yet, so very far. The best part is that now you know.

Also sorry to hear the bad news... Thanks for sharing this.. I would bought that put it into my dansco and never questioned it.
And at the last few shows in Florida I looked at alot of 16-d and a bunch of them at least 3 of 8 looked just like yours and could of been a worn down s, I never go for graded coins. But after seeing this I might look into getting a slabbed one and some more research as to how to tell the correct dies.

Is 16-S known for a rotated die? I know 16-D is.

I'm wondering if they just couldn't tell, and put the "S" because of the odds.

Sorry to see no score on the dime. I thought it was possibly a D-mint. Being a SEGS fan, myself, I can usually show a questionable coin like this to Larry Briggs at a show and get a verbal acknowledgement before paying the freight, so to speak. IMHO, ANACS is more geared toward profit than truly servicing collectors. Why else would they slab a $2 coin? IMHO, they should have returned the dime in a bag and rebated part of the cost!
P.S. - Don't confuse SEGS with SGS!

Thanks for the replies, I thought as others did that it had a good chance at coming back as a 16-D. not all is lost, the other 2 coins I sent in were a pleasant surprise so it made up for it. I showed the coin to a few collector friends who saw it in hand and they thought it was a lock. As stated, now I have a $2 coin in a slab...lol
