My guess is that the bulk of these coins were minted back when silver was still $20+ an ounce, hence you wont see a downward adjustment at release time. Think there would be potential for an aftermarket wooden display case like the recent ASEs?

I'm going to put these in the Dansco album, so the packaging means little to me.

The price is unreasonable. Shops will buy the set & break 'em up. I'm gonna hold off & buy the only coin I care for out of the set in the secondary market.

I haven't made up my mind on this yet, but they will most likely end up in the Dansco at some point.

The packaging is like an ugly dog... I can't stop looking at it. And the more I look at it the better I like it.

However, I love the wooden box the gold coin comes in.

Gotta love all the box haters...geez. I love the retro look of the faux leather. Right out of the 60's. Way to go Mint, you did good.

They should have put it in cello. Then it would look like the proof sets issued in the 50s and the early 60s.

Yeah, it's not cardboard -- it's "faux leather"....

I'll definitely be buying the set and may even buy multiple sets. I've never been one to break up sets like this and have the coins separately graded or anything, however, so I do appreciate some nice high-quality packaging and really don't care for this. It may be silly, but having nice hardwood boxes makes it somehow easier to justify paying such a high premium....

Here's a thought: I reckon withe decent drop is the price of silver, less people will be buying these sets at the $100 price point.

Therefore...giving this set some potential. I am not good at making money off modern collectables, so please don't quote me on this one :)

Isn't the blue faux an endangered species? Seems a shame to kill them just to make coin cases.

indeed, the package looks ugly and really over priced considering the price of silver. Hopefully it will look better in person. I was expecting nice blue wood boxes like the recent ASE sets came in.

Well, for some reason I thought right from the start that these coins were going to have the dual dates but was finally clued in by Foxwoods Man that only the gold will have the dual dates. Since then my enthusiasm waned considerably.

I really do not get the hang up with the price of silver. The fact that they are silver is simply an added bonus. These are not run of the mill "bullion" ASEs. They are special issue coins. Unique. If you are so worried about having something tied right to the price of silver, APMEX has plenty of offerings for that.

I looked at it again and I really do like the retro look to it. The cases for the ASEs are actually plastic, and that would have been nice I guess, but these work. The wooden case like for the gold coin would add even more to the cost. I guarantee those are FAR from cheap.

These are, without any doubt, numismatic items. They are not bullion!

The price is likely what the market will bear. That is, the set is not overpriced. I have a tight budget and I will be buying this set.

(And yes, every time I look at the photos I like the package more and more.)
