I asked him for info on the coin shop that told him it is real. You think he will reply? What an obvious fake.

That is one God-awful looking coin. How does ebay not deal with these types of people?

Has anyone looked up the NGC certification numbers he listed for them? He has listed legitimate certificate numbers for a MS 1795 and AU 58 dollar. Of course they don't look anything like the junk he is selling.

HMMMM. The counterfeit 1795 sold for $1,311.00 and the counterfeit 1798 sold for $449.00. Both purchased by the same bidder. Either the buyer is out nearly $2,000 or he has no intention of paying.

Laughable... workmanship, that is.
It wouldn't surprise me if the winning bidder and seller were one and the same.

First link--I notice that "sold" for US $1,311.00 That has to be one of the least convincing early dollars I've seen. Buyer beware! It's the kind of quality you would see in Chinatown curio shops--back in the day when they sold such things. Usually they would take your $1 for such a "dollar".

Do you believe how putrid the "1798" date looks? I think even his fellow counterfeiters would get angry at this.

If you take a closer look at the bidding for both coins, the exact same few bidders bid on both coins. On the 1798, one guy kept on bidding over and over every few seconds, inching up the price by a few dollars each time. It makes no sense. And the guy who won, it was his first ebay transaction. Man, this smells so fishy I want a tuna sandwich.

Until ebay starts losing money on this crap through expensive lawsuits it will continue. Until Customs starts snagging this stuff when imported it will continue. Eventually, ebay will require all coins valued over "x" amount of dollars in value to be certified by one of their "approved" grading services. Just a matter of time before it happens.
