Tell them you're taking it out of the flip to weight it, caliper it and examine it. And they can run in traffic especially if you have a buyer protection from an online purchase via PP.

Looks like the Cohen-1 (very common). Tough to talk about the surfaces from the pics. Weak strike obverse....VF ish.

dsfreeworld, not an online purchase, old school mail bid seller, so no paypal protection or such...

amida, I have it as VF details. there are a couple of hits that I think would be judged as scratches if graded but I'm OK with that for the price I paid and since this is one for my own collection

Barring anything 'unseen' from looking through plastic, it looks very much like a VF. I'm not sure that the marks that I can see would be graded as details scratches on that year coin.
Yup -really need to see better pics.

Agree, VF ish, leaning toward Fine. If you paid much more than say $75, I'd suggest returning it. IMHO, don't open it, as the seller might be upset and consider it sold.

Exoguy, I did pay more than $75 but I have not seen anything decent looking with some detail go for under $100 anytime recently... Am I completely off on my valuation?

I'm still debating on keeping it or not, it's a nice looking coin even with a couple of hits and the draped bust design is my favorite of american coinage...

I'm in the VF camp also. Looks like a slightly weak strike but enough detail to warrent a 20 grade. The obverse surf. ace hits may pull a details. Grade

Looks VF fine to me, and not a bad looking coin.

It looks like a decent coin to me too. Surfaces appears reasonably smooth and there is enough detail there for a VF grade. No obvious signs of cleaning, and hits if any, seem to be small and fairly distributed.

My advice: for the money you are paying, if you like it, keep it. It is a nice coin from 1803. And do not get too carried it away with this issue of 'details' grade. Sometime I feel that U.S collectors emphasize too much whether a coin will slab or not (I do agree though grading has its place), and forget the numismatic aspects of coin collecting. Enjoy your coin, even if it is not perfect.

F-VF slider. Possibly details if you care what a TPG thinks. Looks like honest surfaces and is attractive to my eye.

I don't see anything wrong with it.
I'm at mid-VF level.

I'm in the camp with seeing no issues with the coin and I would say VF20 to 25.
